Mods are an integral part of every Bethesda game. Just like in the case of Skyrim and Fallout 4, enthusiasts and moderators create many interesting additions to diversify your gaming experience. So in this guide, you will learn how to install mods in Starfield.
The community is currently waiting for official support for mods from the developers, but for now, you can install add-ons from other sources. Below, we’ll show you the whole way from searching for mods to launching the game with them.
How to Install Mods for Starfield
Well, the best way to install add-ons is to use a mod manager called Vortex. This program is supported by Nexus Mods, where you can find the best available mods for the game. Here are the steps you need to follow to install mods successfully:
- First, you will need to register in Nexus Mods, this is necessary because Vortex will then ask you to log in.
- After successful registration, you will have to install Vortex itself.
- After successful installation, launch the program, and in the interface on the right you will notice the Starfield modding tool. Select the game and install the extension. After that, you will have to log in to the Nexus Mods account you recently created.
- When you do, go to Games and select a game to manage. Select Starfield to allow mods to be installed.
- Now that you have everything set up, go back to the Nexus Mods site and search the mods for Starfield.
- After selecting one of them and starting the installation, the site will offer to continue working in Vortex.
- Accept this offer by clicking Open Link and continuing the installation following all the instructions on the mod page.
- Launch the game and make sure that all changes have been applied.

How To Create a Backup of your Starfield files
First of all, you’ll need to back up your data so that you don’t lose your progress if something goes wrong. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the Steam Library
- Find Starfield among the other games and right-click on it.
- In the drop-down menu, you need to find the Manage option and then Browse local files.
- Now you will see all the files of the game, you have to copy them and put in another folder. Do not rename them, as errors may occur in the future.
Now you can fully enjoy the game with new content, modifications, or fun additions.
Starfield: How to Fix Starfield Nexus Vortex Mods Not Working
If you launch the game and notice that it doesn’t work properly, there may be a data conflict. To fix this, you will need to edit the StarfieldCustom.ini file. Before you do this, move all the mods to the Starfield folder, then copy StarfieldCustom.ini to the same place and edit it by inserting the following values:
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
[General]
SIntroSequence=0
uMainMenuDelayBeforeAllowSkip=0
[Camera]
fFPWorldFOV=100.0000
fTPWorldFOV=100.0000
The last thing you need to do is run the game through the Starfield.exe file. If you did everything correctly, you shouldn’t have any problems and you can continue your playthrough.
