Here's the deal: Yes, it really is possible to duplicate weapons (and other things) in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. However, this is not the intention of the developers. It is rather a glitch that you will surely only be able to take advantage of for a limited time. So it's best to start duplicating directly. How this works exactly, you will learn a bit further down.

Zelda TotK: Duplicate Weapons, Thanks to a Glitch

The following is the process on how to exploit the glitch to duplicate weapons.

• First open the pause menu via the "+" key.
• Now equip the weapon you intend to duplicate. You can also equip a shield at this point, because it counts as a weapon.
• Open the system menu and manually save the game in a new slot.
• Now place the weapon you want to duplicate on the inventory screen.
• Then grab a weapon of the same type. So if you want to duplicate a melee weapon, you need to equip another melee weapon. And if it's a bow, it has to be a different bow, while a shield requires another shield.
• Apparently the program doesn't quite tolerate the very fast closing and reopening of the pause menu. Do it. However, you really need to press the "+" key twice very quickly in succession.
• Drop the equipped weapon.
• Open up the system menu again. Then reload the save you made earlier.
• Et voilà: The duplicated weapon lies at Link's feet.
