The upcoming fourth update for Enshrouded brings lots of exciting new features. At Gamescom 2024, we had the chance to speak to the developers about the new content. Here’s what you can expect!
Briefly:
Update 4 brings significant changes to the NPCs. Before, they were static and just stood around. Now, they actively move through the world, interact with furniture, and may even help you with farming in the future.
NPCs also get new roles. Some will become workshop assistants, while others will have special quests for you. A special highlight: NPCs now go to sleep at night, and you can provide them with beds to increase their satisfaction. Familiar NPCs like the blacksmith won’t wander far from their chosen spot, so you won’t have to search for them.
In the update, you'll be able to tame animals. You can catch them with bait and keep them on your farm. Animals like goats or birds provide important resources like milk, eggs, and feathers. If you take good care of them, they might even breed.
Pets like dogs and cats are also being introduced. If you pet them, you’ll get a slight buff once daily – a nice feature that adds more interaction.
Another big feature of the update is the new weather system. Rain won't just add atmosphere, but it will also affect the behavior of animals and enemies. For example, enemies’ visibility will be reduced during heavy rain, making it easier to sneak past them. Furthermore, you’ll want to get inside during the rain, or you might receive a debuff.
Snow will also play a role, especially in the new mountain biome. You'll have to trudge through deep snow, prepare for extreme cold, and fight the elements with special armor or food.
The biggest highlight of the update is introducing a new area – the mountains. This new map section will have new enemies, resources, and challenges. The vertical structure of the mountains brings a fresh dynamic to the game: you’ll not only climb the mountains but also explore caves and tunnels deep within.
New enemies, including giant cyclops, will make life challenging for you. You'll need to develop new strategies to defeat them – like using the grappling hook to reach enemies faster or escape dangerous situations.
The fourth update for Enshrouded brings more life and dynamics to the game world and expands gameplay with many new features. Interactive NPCs, pets, farming, and a new weather system deepen the game. The new mountain area introduces fresh challenges that will even test experienced players.
