One of the most eagerly awaited games of 2024 was supposed to be released this spring. However, Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl has had to postpone its release again, by several months.
Instead of the planned release in the spring of this year, the shooter Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl will now only be released on September 5, 2024, around six months later than previously assumed. The developers have addressed fans in a post on the Stalker 2 Steam page to explain their decision.
The technical side of Stalker 2 is simply not ready yet and needs more time. They worked extremely hard until the very end to meet the planned release date of the first quarter of 2024. At the beginning of the year, however, it was recognized that it would not be possible from a technical point of view.
From your insights, we figured out two key points: the one to celebrate and the one to consider seriously.
The first one: the Zone remains the Zone. In its true beauty and after our likeness. The game absolutely feels and plays like S.T.A.L.K.E.R, the atmosphere, hardcore style, harsh and unwelcoming environment are ready to cook, and we can’t be more grateful for these words, as they basically sum up both the key intention and the main inspiration for the project from the very beginning at the same time.
The second one was: the gear in the backpack should be checked one more time to be completely sure it will not fail us in the most needed moment. On the technical side of things — the game needs more time.
Considering that GSC Game World is a Ukrainian development studio that had to leave its home country due to the war and had even stopped work on the game in the meantime, the postponement comes as no surprise.
