Dead Matter was supposed to start Early Access on Steam at the end of 2021, but has now been postponed to 2022. We explain why this happened.

No start in 2021: The ambitious survival MMO Dead Matter will no longer appear in 2021. The developers announce this in one of their latest blog posts. Instead, they want to use the newly gained time to create a fully playable experience -- even right at the beginning of the Early Access phase.

That's why Dead Matter is being postponed for a year

Huge patch: In the weekly recap for the development of Dead Matter, the team states that they underestimated the size of the upcoming patch 0.7.0 and those who follow next. This coming Update should again pay off many of the technology debt, as the team calls it. And of course, new content shouldn't be neglected either.

Due to the extra work on the current patch, other ideas have to be postponed. However, there is no new date at least kind of. Only 2022 is mentioned as the release period.

This is what the community thinks: All hell has broken loose on YouTube and once loyal supporters are turning their backs on the game. They find the postponement to 2022 is evidence that Dead Matter is a doomed game.

We say this is nonsense. In 2020 and 2021, many games had to be postponed due to the Corona crisis. But not only that, games whose alpha status is not shared with the public are constantly being postponed internally for a few months or years.

The real problem, however, is that many of the original developers have already left the studio. These people were responsible for the original idea behind Dead Matter.

But what do you think about the postponement and dead matter in general? Leave us a comment or discuss with us on Facebook.
