The Desmodus Draculae in the Fjordur DLC for ARK: Survival Evolved is reminiscent of an oversized bat. Prince Dracula’s namesake has some cool abilities and will quickly take you anywhere on the island.
Find out everything you need to know about the giant bat in our Desmodus guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him and also breed offspring.
This is Desmodus in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: True to its name, the Desmodus Draculae comes in the form of a giant bat. The sharp claws on the wingtips and its blood-soaked snout make for a dangerous sight.
Wild: As we are used to from bats, they mainly hang on cave ceilings. As soon as you get close to a Desmodus, it will attack you and try to grab you.
Domesticated: Once you have tamed a Desmodus, you can use it as a flying animal, from which you can also wield weapons. With the Desmodus you can also fly in caves and dungeons where you cannot use your other flying dinosaurs. But the oversized bat still has a lot of cool and handy abilities:
- Hold the right mouse button to turn invisible (only works at night or while hanging on the wall).
- Hold down the left mouse button to let out a scream that locates other creatures and marks them with a red circle. Marked creatures take 20% more damage from desmode at night.
- Hold the R button to switch to night vision or activate lifesteal mode.
- Desmode automatically farms blood packs by drinking blood. Once you have 200 blood packs in Desmodus’ inventory, you can craft the Sanguine Elixir, which allows you to tame stunned creatures faster. For this you must consume the elixir once you have stunned a dino. The stunned dino then immediately gains 30% taming. In addition to the blood packs, you get Rotten Meat and Raw Meat. However, you cannot farm special resources with desmode, e.g. mutton when eating sheep.
- Press spacebar to hang from cliffs or cave ceilings (useful for taming other creatures)
How to tame Desmodus in Ark
How to hunt Desmodus: It couldn’t be easier. You just have to walk to the places where a Desmodus is staying. As soon as he sees you, he will attack you and grab you with his claws. There are several locations in Fjordur where you can tame a Desmodus, e.g. here:
- Moria: coordinates to the back entrance 86.2/ 5.1
- Cave: coordinates 68.4/ 37.5
- Volcanic Island: coordinates 90.6/ 78/8
How to tame him: To tame the Desmodus, all you have to do is put some blood packs in your inventory and let him grab you. Once he starts drinking your blood, the taming process begins. Depending on the Desmodus level, you need more or fewer blood packs.
How to make the Desmodus saddle
You don’t need a saddle to ride the Bat. To craft the Desmodus Saddle anyway, you require level 75 and 45 engram points to unlock the recipe. You will then need the following materials:
- 260x Hide
- 180x Fiber
- 120x Wood
- 45x Metal ingots
How to feed the Desmodus in ARK
Once you have tamed your Desmodus, it is important to know what it likes to eat. However, given their aggressiveness and behavior, it is not difficult to guess what bats’ favorite food is, blood and meat.
How to breed the Desmodus
Bats don’t lay eggs. A female Desmodus becomes pregnant and gives birth to a Desmodus baby. So you only require one Desmodus pair and have to set them to pairs. The gestation takes 8 hours. Once the bat offspring is in the world, you must raise it with meat or blood packs. Baby time is over after about 5 to 6 hours.
The total interval for raising a Desmodus is between 18 and 48 hours.
