The Amargasaurus came to ARK: Survival Evolved with the Lost Island DLC. You can find him in the snow biome and in the desert on Lost Island. The Amargasaurus is a real all-rounder when tamed, so it is suitable for farming, riding, carrying loads, and fighting.
Find out everything you need to know about the aggressive herbivore in our Amargasaurus guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.
This is the Amargasaurus in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: The Amargasaurus is a sauropod and belongs to the same family as the Brontosaurus and the Diplodocus From head to tail, it has two parallel rows of spines that are significantly longer on the nape than on the rest of its body. By storing extreme heat or freezing cold, the spines allow the Amargasaurus to control its body temperature and live adaptable in any environment.
Wild: If you are lucky, you can meet the Amargasaurus alone or in a small herd. At the slightest perception of a threat, he immediately becomes aggressive and tries to eliminate the threat. The Amargasaurus uses every attack at its disposal. For this reason, you should never approach a group without a plan!
Tamed: Once you have tamed the Amargasaurus, it is a true all-rounder. It is suitable as a riding and packs animal because it is quite fast for its size and can also swim. In addition, the Amargasaurus can be used to farm berries, wood, and fiber. The Amargasaurus is also suitable for fighting: you can fire three different types of spikes from its neck/head:
- Heat Spikes: Create a circle of fire, dealing additional fire damage to the enemy inside.
- Cold Spikes: Freeze and immobilize enemies within the circle of ice.
- Purple Spikes: Significantly reduces the armor of enemies within the purple circle.
Of course, that’s not all. The Amargasaurus spikes also increase your resin production for about 6 hours.

How to tame the Amargasaurus in ARK
Unlike most Dinos, you must fight other creatures alongside the Amargasaurus to tame it.
So that the aggressive herbivore does not attack you directly, you should wear a ghillie suit and eat Fria Curry or Calien Soup beforehand to stop its aggression. If you have already triggered the aggression, neither curry nor soup will help you.
When you’re ready, approach the Amargasaurus until it says “(E) SYNC Temperature to tame” and you can connect. From there, the Amagasaurus will follow you and attack everything that crosses your path.
In order to tame him successfully, you have to make sure he doesn’t fall below 85% health, otherwise, your taming progress will be reset. To restore his life, you can heal him with a vegetable cake, for example. In addition, you should feed him the exceptional kibble (recipe below).
You must defeat other creatures with him until he is tamed.
You need this for taming
- Entire ghillie suit: 26x organic polymer, 40x Hide, 18x Fiber
- Fria Curry: 5x Longrass, 5x Rockarrot, 20x Azulberry, 10x Mejoberry, 2x Narcotic, 1x Water.
- Calien Soup: 5x Citronal, 20x Tintoberry, 20x Amarberry, 10x Mejoberry, 2x Stimulants, 1x Water.
- Vegetable cake: 2x Giant Bee Honey, 4x Sap, 2x Rockarrot, 2x Longrass, 2x Savoroot, 4x Stimulants, 25x Fiber, 1x Water.

How to breed the Amargasaurus in ARK
This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of an Amargasaurus is 18 to 48 hours.
How to Hatch Eggs: If you have obtained a fertilized Amargasaurus egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. For this, the ambient temperature of the egg should be between 26 °C and 29 °C. According to default settings, the small baby Amargasaurus will hatch after about 5 hours. After that, it takes about 9 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting berries, vegetables, etc. (see above) in its inventory. Pay attention to the embossing intervals every 8 hours to tickle the greatest potential out of the baby.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed from troughs on its own. The entire maturing time takes about 3 days and 20.5 hours.
