Also in ARK: Survival Evolved there are sheep, the Ovis, that you can tame and breed to produce mutton and wool. Both are valuable resources that you need to craft some items.

In our guide to the Ovis you will find out everything you need to know about the sheep. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.

This is the Ovis in ARK: Survival Evolved

Appearance: Ovis have the same visual characteristics as stink normal sheep, they're just bigger.

Wild: With an Ovis, even if you attack, you don't have to worry that it will attack you, as it prefers to flee to safety. He can do this quite quickly, as he can effortlessly climb the steepest rocks.

Domesticated: If you have a male and a female pair or more, you can start your mutton production by breeding them. Ovis Wool is also a useful resource that you need to craft some items. You can also ride this breed of sheep, but they are not particularly suited to the job.

How to tame Ovis in ARK

The Ovis is tamed passively. That means you don't have to shoot him with tranquilizer darts, but instead, in this case, feed him the sweet vegetable cake.

That's child's play with the peaceful Ovis. First, put the sweet vegetable cake in your rightmost inventory slot. Then just walk up to him until the action "Feed sweet vegetable pie to tame" appears. You do this by pressing the appropriate button and feeding it to him.

While taming, be careful that other predators do not attack you or the Ovis.

How to feed an Ovis in ARK

Once you have tamed your Ovis, it is important to know what it likes to eat. Ovis are herbivores, which of course makes the choice of food easier.

    • Ingredients Stimulants: 5x Stimberry, 2x Sparkpowder
  • Vegetables
  • Berries
  • Fresh barley
  • Soybeans
  • Fresh wheat
  • Dried Wheat

How to breed Ovis in ARK

This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to "wander" via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to "Pair", but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.

The breeding interval of an Ovis is 18 to 48 hours.

After a successful mating, if you play on default settings, the female Ovis will be pregnant for about 4 hours. After the 4 hours, you can welcome the little Ovis baby into the world. As a baby, it takes up another 5 hours of your attention, during which you have to keep putting meat in its inventory. Pay attention to the embossing intervals every 8 hours to tickle the greatest potential out of the baby.

Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed on its own. The entire ripening time takes about 2 days and 1 hour.
