In the Arcane Tower of Baldur’s Gate 3 you will find a lever on the top floor. This guide will tell you what purpose it serves.
Here’s the deal: The lever on the top floor of the Arcane Tower of Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the small puzzles of this place. Another is this floor-level, supposedly broken button, the purpose of which we have described here.
There is no “real” puzzle associated with the lever in the Arcane Tower, though. The problem with the thing is rather that it doesn’t seem to do anything apart from a metallic pounding sound. But the lever actually does something; it opens the door to the secret basement of the structure.
This is What the Lever in the Arcane Tower of Baldur’s Gate 3 is for
Once you have reactivated the Arcane Tower’s elevator, you can use it to “jump” to any floor of the building. Oh well, almost every floor, that is. You can’t get to the secret cellar this way, or at least not easily.
- You haven’t activated the elevator yet? This guide shows you how to do it.
The lever this guide is about is located on the top floor of the Arcane Tower. There, the magical automaton Bernard speaks to you, which you can fight or trick (and thus “bypass”), depending on your answer.
The exact location of the lever is to the right of the bookshelf southeast of Bernard’s first location. As soon as you are near the shelf, you automatically roll a perception test. If it succeeds, the lever becomes visible. If it misses, however, you’ll have to try another character of your party.
Now pull the lever, if you haven’t already done so, and use the elevator to jump to the first floor of the Arcane Tower. As you can see, a door has opened near the coordinates X: -48, Y: -293. Go down the stairs there and also go through the metal door at the end of the stairs. It can be opened normally.
Behind the door you’ll find the aforementioned secret basement, which you can now rummage through. By the way, there is another way to get there. You have to take the book “The Roads to Darkness” from one of the many shelves and read it.
Then you can tell Bernard by means of a verse from the book (“How can I trust? How will I ever know? (…)”) to place the ring “Guiding Light” on the table to the right. When you equip this ring and step on the elevator platform, the button for the secret basement will suddenly become visible.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now for PC via Steam, GOG, and NVIDIA GeForce Now. Also officially released today is the Mac version; PS5 and Xbox Series versions are still pending.
