All Classes from Dark and Darker in the Overview
In the following article, we will introduce you to the different classes by providing a short description and pros and cons list for each class. On top of that, we’ll indicate how we rate each class’s difficulty in solo and group play.
The Fighter, the Jack-of-all-Trades
The warrior can use almost all the game’s weapons and armor, making him probably the best class when it comes to customization. Everything is possible, from a tank with a shield that protects his group to a fast fighter who defeats his enemies with his sprint ability and a two-handed or two one-handed weapon. On top of that, he has very balanced attributes and a wide range of passive and active abilities, as well as an active ability for one-time self-healing.
Solo-Difficulty: 2/5
Group-Difficulty: 2/5

The Barbarian, a Brutal Fighter
Blessed with the highest health value and incredibly strong melee skills, the barbarian is a terrifying opponent. He also has a higher resistance to magic. Through passive abilities, he can greatly improve his damage with two-handed weapons, especially axes, and thus defeat many opponents with one to two blows at most. His biggest weakness is his low speed. This applies to locomotion, attacking, but also interacting with chests or doors.
Solo-Difficulty: 4/5
Group-Difficulty: 3/5

The Cleric, Sacred Defender
As the only class that can heal other party members in combat, the cleric is indispensable, especially in these groups. With various healing and strengthening spells, the cleric is playable in groups and alone. When it comes to equipment, he can fall back on maces, shields, and heavy armor. Thus, with good equipment, he is more similar to a paladin than a simple healer in cloth robes. For these reasons, however, he is often the first target in battle.
Solo-Difficulty: 1/5
Group-Difficulty: 2/5

The Rogue, Secret Assassin
Classically armed with daggers, the rogue is also a class designed for stealth in Dark and Darker. Due to his uncanny speed, he can disappear from a fight just as quickly as he started it. His movements are quieter than the other classes, which makes it easier to sneak up on him. His abilities allow him to pick locks, detect traps, turn invisible or poison his weapons. A good rogue can also take on a whole group of enemies.
Solo-Difficulty: 4/5
Group-Difficulty: 2/5

The Ranger, Effective Archer
One of the two classes that shine, especially in ranged combat. The Ranger can deal great damage over long distances with his bow. Because of this and his relatively high movement speed, he can keep most enemies at bay. In combat against other groups, he can damage the opponents before the fight starts and thus often play a decisive role in the victory. He can quickly finish off fleeing players with his tracking ability, speed, and ranged attacks. He can also build campfires more quickly, healing the entire party during rest while protecting them with traps in the area.
Solo-Difficulty: 1/5
Group-Difficulty: 3/5

The Wizard, a Battle Mage
As known from many games, the wizard also heats his opponents with the popular fireball in Dark and Darker. Besides this, since the latest playtest, he has a few other attack spells with which he can cause much damage. Due to the limited use of the different spells, the wizard must think carefully about when to use his magic. By injuring his comrades, he is also to be used with caution in groups. An experienced magician should carefully consider when to use which spells.
Solo-Difficulty: 3/5
Group-Difficulty: 4/5
