In this DayZ guide, we show you how to play the DayZ Expansion Mod offline in single player mode. This way you can test out the mod, and try some admin tools.
The Guide in Short (TLDR):
- Expansion is a mod that essentially turns DayZ into a fan-made DayZ 2.
- You can play Expansion offline just like you would the normal DayZ, but you need to make some changes to the game files.
- In addition to two files, you must also download some admin mods like Zomberry from the Steam Store.
- In the following guide, we will tell you all the steps in detail.
How to Play DayZ Expansion Offline
1. Download DayZ Expansion
To play the modification in singleplayer, you need to download at least one of the following two files via Dropbox. Simply click on Download in the top-right corner. Afterward, you should receive a Zip or Winrar file.
- DayZ Expansion ChernarusPlus
- DayZ Expansion ChernarusPlusGloom (Customized Map)
2. Install DayZ Expansion Offline
When you open this directory, you should see two folders. Now add these to your DayZ Missions folder. You should find it in your Steam directory. If you haven’t changed it, the address is “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ“. Here you should then find a folder named “Missions”. Into this, you add your two new CommunityOfflineMode folders, as discussed.
3. Start & Play DayZ Expansion
To start, you need to install some additional mods. Go to the DayZ Steam Workshop. Here, subscribe to the following content:
- CF (Community Framework)
- DayZ Expansion
- DayZ Expansion Licensed
- Community Online Tools
- Optional: Zomberry Admin Tools
To save you the hassle of searching for each mod individually, I have created a Steam Collection for you, containing all the mods. Simply click on “Subscribe to All”. Now start the DayZ Launcher via Steam and navigate to the Mods section. In the search field located at the top right, now search for the said mods and check only these. If you have loaded more mods, you must unload them first.
Then go to “Parameters”, then “All Parameters”. Set a profile name and add your path of the Expansion Offline folder to the search bar. Again, if not changed, it should be this: “C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ\Missions\ExpansionCOM.ChernarusPlus”
Attention: The last folder is only clicked, not opened! Then select “Choose Folder”.
How the Control and Menu Navigation of the Admin Menus Work
The most important keyboard shortcuts in DayZ’s offline mode are:
- END – Activates and deactivates the Community Online Tools
- Insert – Enables free camera flight
- Z – Opens the console, with which you can play god
- O – Opens the Zomberry console. This is a bit more straightforward
Known Issues – Contact Us if Needed
- No Missions Folder: If there is no folder named Missions in your DayZ directory, you can easily create one with a right-click > new > folder. Then just rename it!
- Expansion Compile Error: If this occurs, close the game. You might also see an error message that you can’t click on, but that’s not a problem. In the Parameters section of the DayZ Launcher, select “Force Window Mode”. This ensures that DayZ does not overlay the error message. If it appears again, click ignore and the loading sequence should continue. And then you can play DayZ Expansion offline!

This is gunna sound insanely dumb but can I have one of my friends join me. Also does it have parts from the updates on here
What’s status on the fix? Getting hang at half way mark as others indicated earlier.
If it’s a Nitrado server try this:
go inside your server profile (or config) => expansionmod => Settings => generalsettings.json => disable the custom mapping and interiors (from 1 to 0). It should improve the server perfs
Check if the expansionmod => missions folder is not empty
Check if the crash.logs have a error
cant get it to work done it right and it crashes
Sorry to hear that. We will work on an updated version of this guide as soon as we figure out, what causes this crash. It’s not working since the last hotfix.
go inside your server profile (or config) => expansionmod => Settings => generalsettings.json => disable the custom mapping and interiors (from 1 to 0). It should improve the server perfs

Is there any way to launch this without using the launcher, a command line for a batch file perhaps?
I have followed all of the steps in this guide, but when I attempt to launch the game, the progress bar for loading stops a little after the halfway mark. I deleted and reinstalled DayZ and all the additional files, and have the same result. If I run DayZ alone or just with the mods, it loads normally. But, once I add the Missions folder and the other files, it will not load. I am not getting any form of error message and I have attempted this in both full screen and windowed. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
I’m having the same issue.
Hey Ray and Stank2k! This article is outdatet since the latest Hotfixes. We will update it as soon as possible 🙂
Same here, any fix yet?
No zombies or gear spawns for me. Is this normal for offline mode?
same for me. Not seeing any loot anywhere
Yes, unfortunately that is normal.
so doing all of this is a waste of time then? im new and trying to figure game out but cant on public servers coz everything has been looted
Might want to put a link in your post for the mod collection. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2277879252
Thanks, Daniel! I’m sorry I forgot it!
