In DayZ, many factors may make you want to hit the respawn button, but it's not that simple. If you want to start over, you have to kill your DayZ character and respawn, and I'll tell you how.

How to Kill Yourself in DayZ & Respawn (TLDR):

  • Find a weapon, a sharp melee weapon, or a firearm.
  • Load your firearm in advance and press F11.
  • Your character assumes a position from which you can kill yourself.
  • Press the left mouse button, and you can respawn in the DayZ escape menu.
  • In the following text, you'll find more details on all weapons and the procedure.

How to Kill Yourself in DayZ & Respawn for a Fresh Start

From personal experience, I know that most players respawn when they get sick. However, you can easily heal and prevent most diseases in DayZ. If it appears that continuing to play is no longer an option, all you need is a weapon. The type of weapon doesn't matter; even tools work. You can self-terminate in DayZ with any items that are pointed, sharp, or explosive:

  • Firearms
  • Knife
  • Screwdriver
  • Axe
  • Saw
  • Grenade
  • Pitchfork
  • And several others...

How to Kill Yourself in DayZ: Choose your weapon and, if necessary, reload it. Then press F11 and wait for the animation to complete. Your character should now be ready for digital suicide. Just press the left mouse button, and you'll end up on the infamous "You are dead" screen.

Just press Escape, and then respawn, and you're ready for a new round of DayZ. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask in the comments. Even though we've essentially helped you end your DayZ life, maybe you'd like to join our DayZ community anyway - we'd be happy to have you!
