Besides the red algae, the dark gemstone Onyx has also found its way into the game. The description of the gemstone in the game already reveals a lot. It talks about a stone as black as the night and is very valuable. Grab your pickaxe and we’ll show you how to get the stone and what you need it for.
For this, you need the Onyx
Night Shards: First of all, you can make the conventional Dreamlight Valley night shards from the onyx. For 3x night shards you need exactly one specimen of the dark stone, which you can then process at the workbench.

Polishes: The onyx is also used to make the miraculous polish for the pickaxe that you received right after the update from Merlin, as well as the even more miraculous polish, which is an even better version. This allows you to gain more gems when mining. We have already compiled an overview of all polishes for you.
How to Get the Onyx in Dreamlight Valley
Unlike night shards, which you get when you dig up mounds of earth with your shovel, you get the onyx passively when mining rock patches. The biome does not matter. The chance to get one of the valuable stones is everywhere – but it is very small.
So if you are mining, you will be lucky every now and then to get an Onyx in addition to your normal find. Unfortunately, the special abilities of the villagers do not work on the Onyx.
So to get a large amount of Onyx, you need to bring a lot of time and patience.
