Scar came into the game through the first and big Disney Dreamlight Valley Scar update, including his quest “Nature and Nurture”. Scar’s quest is about restoring the Sunlit Plateau to its former glory by repairing the Pillar of Nurturing.
This guide will explain how you can successfully complete Scar’s quest “Nature and Nurture”.
Start The Quest “Nature and Nurture” In Dreamlight Valley
To start the quest, you must unlock Scar first and welcome him in his home, the Elephant Graveyard, which will give you the “Nature and Nurture” quest.
After you receive the quest, you’ll need to head to the Vitalys-Mines, whose entrance you’ll find between Goofy’s Shop and the bridge on the other side of the Sunlit Plateau.
Nature and Nurture: Discover the Vitalys-Mines
Go inside the mines and look around. This will reveal that night thorn roots prevent the flow of water, which you have to solve now.
Your next quest task appears, telling you to explore the Vitalys Mines now. To do so, simply follow the only path that leads steadily straight ahead.
Note: Rewards are waiting in the forks, as well as more stones that you can mine to get new gems, emeralds, or crystals:
- Ruby
- Shining Ruby
- Vitalys Crystal (is needed for the further quest)
At the end of your way through the mines, you come to a fork, where you choose the right path first, which lets you walk up a bit.
At the top, you will find a barrel and a sign that tells you that you have to make root beer.
That means you need the recipe for root beer, its ingredients, and crackling candies. The sign also said that everything can be found in a chest in the warehouse. You can find this warehouse by going back down the path and selecting the left path at the fork, where you will come to the chest that you open, which let you receive the following:
- Ginger
- Crackling Candies
- Root Beer Recipe
The easiest way back to the exit is after breaking the big rock at the water’s edge, which creates a bridge. Go across and find Merlin to tell him what you found.
How To Make Extra Fizzy Root Beer in Dreamlight Valley
Looking at the root beer recipe, you know that you still require vanilla and sugar cane. You can easily pick vanilla on the Sunlit Plateau and buy sugar cane at Goofy’s shop on the beach.
Once you have everything together, you can cook the recipe on a stove.
Root Beer Recipe:
- Ginger
- Sugar cane
- Vanilla
Free the waterfall from the night thorn roots
Run back to the Vitalys Mines with the Root Beer and interact with the barrel next to the sign. Drag the Root Beer and the candies into the free slots of the barrel and wait for this mixture to dissolve the Night thorn Roots, which allows the water to flow again.
Nature and Nurture: Follow the oblivion
After successfully letting the water flow, you will see a short sequence in which a purple figure, the Oblivion, runs away. Your new task is to follow the oblivion through the portal at the elephant graveyard.
On the other side of the portal, you have to follow the path that will take you to the orb of nurture, that the oblivion has dropped, and collect it.
Return to the Valley through the portal and talk to Merlin again.
Nature and Nurture: Create the Miracle Growth Elixir
Merlin will give you the task of making the Miracle Growth Elixir, for which you will need the following ingredients:
- 10x Vitalys Crystal
- 10x Rich Soil
- 1000x Dreamlight
Once you have everything together, you can create the miracle growth elixir at a workbench and then use it from your inventory to upgrade your watering can.
Now you need to talk to Merlin again, whereupon you will receive a new task: To plant the orb of nurture in front of the pillar of nurture on the Sunlit Plateau
If you have taken good care of the orb of nurture, a flower will emerge from it and a tree will grow out of the pillar of nurture. After a subsequent conversation with Scar, you have successfully completed the quest.
