Ranni's Quest is one of the most extensive in all the Elden Ring. For many she is even the most beautiful. Engaging in Ranni's service will not only reward you with a powerful sword and an alternative-ending, but also allow you to venture into areas and dungeons that would otherwise have remained hidden from you. With our guide, you won't miss any of the many intermediate steps.
What you should know: In order to complete Ranni's Quest, numerous journeys, battles and tasks are necessary. You won't be able to complete the quest in one go unless you're well advanced in the game and are only now beginning to seek out Ranni. But even if you have just entered the intermediate land, you can already complete the first points.
You meet Ranni for the first time very early in the game. Once you've leveled up for the first time and visited three Places of Grace, you'll find Ranni at the Church of Elleh in Limgrave. She introduces herself as Renna and gives you the Ghostcalling Bell, an extremely important item that allows you to summon Ghost Ashes in battle.
In order to meet the Snow Witch again and enter her service, you must go to the Liurnia area and visit Caria's estate. This is north of Raya Lucaria's Academy. The property is not a pleasant place.
Shortly after the entrance into the inner courtyard, small and large hands await you, making life very difficult for you. But you can just walk past them. To do this, follow the path inside the estate. The rest of House Caria can be explored relatively quickly. In the end, you will reach the Royal Knight Loretta. Defeat them, and you can enter the Three Sisters territory.
Once there, you will find three towers. Ranni is to the west of it. Go to her and talk to her. Then explore the tower and speak to her three servants, Blaidd, Iji, and Seluvis, and then again to Ranni to pledge allegiance to her and begin the quest. The first thing she will ask you to do is get a treasure from the infinite city of Nokron. However, the way there is still blocked for you. First, you have to talk to some NPCs:
Once Rhadan is defeated, a cutscene will see a meteorite fall from the sky. The comet slams into the middle of Limgrave, leaving a huge crater with floating boulders. Drop from rock to rock to find the entrance to the infinite city of Nokron.
Enter the city and run across the rooftops to the first point of mercy. Follow the path until you reach a silver mist. There you will get the Spirit Ash Mimic Tear (extremely important for the endgame). Then drop down on the left side of the bridge and follow the path. Continue to keep left until you find the place of mercy forest of the ancestors in a crevice and jump onto the roofs there. Basically, you can't go wrong here as there are no big junctions.
Follow the path and at the end you will find Ranni's treasure, the Fingerslayer Blade. You can either fight the enemies on your way there or just run past them. Bring the blade to Ranni and get the inverted Carian statue in return. Use fast travel to travel to Ranni's Tower again. The witch is gone now. Next, go to Renna's Tower at the very north of the Three Sisters area and use the teleporter there.
The teleporter takes you to the Ainsel. Right when you get there, you'll find a tiny Ranni statue in front of you. Take it and rest at the point of mercy next to it. Select the item "Talk to Ranni" and talk to her until she asks you to defeat the baleful shadows in Nokstella.
To find this mid-boss, you have to fight your way through Ainsel, which isn't exactly pleasant. Huge ants and other enemies lurk everywhere. Once you reach the Eternal City of Nokstella, follow the course of the river to an elevator. This will take you further underground. Activate the Place of Mercy and follow the path through a small passage that will bring you to the ominous shadow.
Defeating the boss gives you the Discarded Palace Key. Now take the elevator at the end of the boss arena up to the Blight Lake and activate the point of mercy there. You can now use the key to return to Raya Lucaria's Academy and open a chest in the boss arena where you defeated Rennala, which contains the Darkmoon Ring.
To get the Darkmoon Ring to Ranni, you must first go back to the Blight Lake and cross it. Here you should have some conservation boluses with you as the lake is extremely toxic. On the other side of the lake there are some unpleasant opponents waiting. With a bit of skill, you can sprint past them or sneak past them unnoticed. Either way, you have to reach the coffin on the left. Climb into the coffin to get to the boss Astel, Abyssal Spawn.
You must defeat this boss in order to continue with Ranni's Quest. If you're playing a melee fighter such as a samurai, try to hit the beast's head and stay close to it at all times. Once you've defeated Astel, a path will appear to an elevator that will take you to the Moonlight Altar area.
Arriving at the top of the elevator, you will immediately see the Cathedral of Manus Celes, which is guarded by a dragon. But you can simply ride past it. In the cathedral you will find a hole on the right that will take you to Ranni. Once you put the Darkmoon Ring on her finger, her quest is complete and you will receive the Darkmoon Greatsword from her. You have now also unlocked the alternative ending, which you can choose after completing the game.
