When catching magical beasts in Hogwarts Legacy, have you ever wondered what the star next to the animal’s name means? These are rare species that you can also catch.
Here’s what’s going on: We’ve already told you how to get to your vivarium and catch Magical Beasts in Hogwarts Legacy in another guide. During the game, however, you may come across unique animals that are marked with a star. Basically, like Shiny Pokémon that players are feverishly searching for.
Here’s What You Need to Keep in Mind When Catching Shiny Beasts in Hogwarts Legacy.
Once you have your Nab-Sack, you can search for the rare Shiny Beasts. They can spawn randomly anywhere, and you can often recognize them by two unique features:
- They have a star next to their name.
- They are often with much lighter in color, almost white, than their fellow creatures.
Because of the lighter or almost white color of the Shiny creatures, you could also assume that they are albinos. So whether shiny bests or Albinos, the rare animals are an eye-catcher and an enrichment for your vivarium.

Here’s what you need to keep in mind when catching them: Once you have found a wild Shiny, you should use the Disillusionment spell to make yourself invisible and sneak up on it. You can cast Levioso and make the creature float helplessly in the air. If you use your Nab-Sack, you must press the action button at the right moment. However, with Shiny Beasts, you have to press the action button more often than normal, which can cause the catching event to run out of time and the creature to run away.
There is an albino or shiny version of each creature, except for the phoenix. Unicorns and Graphorn will probably not be available in a rare form, either.

The Hazel the Unicorn quest gave the Gold variant, first run thru. I was shocked when Hazel wasn’t Gold n the second time around. 🙁
That’s not true. The rare colors are random, even for Hazel. So you were just lucky the first time.
Unicorns have a Gold Variant
oh that’s cool. Couldn’t find one so far. Thanks for letting us know 🙂
