In Hogwarts Legacy, there are door puzzles all over the castle where you have to replace question marks with animal symbols to reveal the wondrous treasures in front of you. This can be quite tricky at times, so we’ll give you a simple guide here!
What’s it about? Hogwarts is full of hidden passages, door puzzles, locked rooms and chests, all of which need to be lock-picked and found. In this guide, we will focus on the door puzzles. You can recognize them by a board with triangles, numbers, and question marks on it. The door is surrounded by golden animal symbols. But how do you solve these puzzles now?
Solving door puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy – How to find the correct symbols
Take notes: Basically, to solve the puzzle, you usually have to use two animal symbols for substitute question marks on the board. Once you have found one of these doors, use the Revelio spell to locate the cubes located near the door. The cubes are in the walls, and you have to turn them until you find the correct animal symbol. But how? Sure, you can try wildly until the door is open, but it’s easier: look closely at the door puzzle in Hogwarts, and you’ll find the following striking features:
- 10 animal symbols arranged around the door.
- A panel in the middle with triangles and numbers.
- Large numbers in the exact center (in our case, 13 and 21).
- However, some numbers or animal symbols are missing and replaced by question marks.
- Conclusion: The animals on the edge are related to corresponding numbers.

This is how you find the first symbol: The numbers in the middle are the result you have to come up with in the following calculation. We explain the puzzle using the door puzzle outside the Ravenclaw dormitories.
- The result is 13.
- Next to it is the number 1.
- Above it is a spider.
So, the spider represents a number. Count off the animals next to the door. But be careful. Do not start with one, but start counting with zero. So the spider stands for the number 8. 8 + 1 = 9, up to 13 there are 4 missing. This means that the remaining question mark stands for the animal in the 4th (respectively 5th) place, the owl. Now roll the dice at the corresponding spin mechanism until the owl appears. Perfect, we have half!

This is how you find the second symbol: Basically, you repeat the same steps here, just for the “??” symbol. However, we finish the Ravenclaw door puzzle together:
- The result you are looking for is 21.
- Next to it is the number 13.
- Below it is a three-headed dragon.
If you count up from 0 again, the three-headed dragon is in 3rd place. 3 + 13 = 16, you are 5 short of 21, so you look again for the animal on the 5th place. In this case it is the crab. Now go to the second spinning mechanism and roll the dice for the crab. Once you have done that, you can now open the door to the secret room.
