Finally, the time has come: Hogwarts Legacy is here and Harry Potter’s school of magic opens its doors. But one important question that should be on the minds of all fans is: Which house is the right one for me?
What’s going on? As soon as we reach the legendary school of wizardry with our character in Hogwarts Legacy and complete the wizarding ceremony, we have to choose one of the four houses. We’ll tell you about the differences between Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff and how important your decision is for the game.
The Houses of Hogwarts Legacy: Less Different Than Expected
How do the houses in Hogwarts Legacy differ from each other? Basically, although you have to choose one of four houses in the game, the game experience remains largely identical. Only the following differences play a more or less important role:
- Depending on which house you choose, the colors of your equipment will vary.
- Each house has an exclusive common room.
- There are separate dialogue options as well as interaction options for members of your house.
Since no house offers specific advantages in gameplay or quests and similar content are only accessible to you as a member of a certain house, the choice of house plays a rather minor role. However, if you want to collect the Hogwarts Legacy Platinum Trophy, you’ll need to have listened to every house in Hogwarts once and discovered their respective map room.
This is Gryffindor
If you select Gryffindor, your colors are red and gold. The Gryffindor common room is located in the south wing of Gryffindor Tower. There’s also the portrait of the fat lady familiar from the Harry Potter books – nice fanservice. The characters you’ll have to deal with particularly as a Gryffindor are Garreth Weasley, Cressida Blume, Natasi Onai, and Nellie Oggspire. Natasi Onai is one of the companions in the game that you can befriend and grant you special quests (but you can get them as a non-Gryffindor).

This is Ravenclaw
Members of House Ravenclaw wear the colors blue and bronze. The Ravenclaw common room is located in a tower off the grand staircase. To enter it, students must solve special riddles. Characters you’ll especially have to deal with as a Ravenclaw are Duncan Everett Clopton, Amit Thakkar (potential companion), and Samantha Dare.
This is Slytherin
House Slyterhin is represented by the colors green and silver. Its common room is located in the vaults under the grand staircase and below a lake, whose inhabitants you can observe through the windows of the room. Students you’ll have particular contact with here are Ominis Gaunt, Sebastian Sallow (potential companion), and Imelda Reyes.
This is Hufflepuff
Those who join the Hufflepuff house dress primarily in the colors yellow and black. The common room of this house is located near the kitchen, below a staircase closer to the basement rooms. Here, coziness is paramount, and you can feast your eyes on many different animals and plants. As a Hufflepuff, you’ll especially enjoy the company of Adelaide Oakes, Lenora Everleigh, Poppy Sweeting (potential companion), and Authur Plummly.
Thus, the house you choose will only marginally affect the gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy. So you can live out your personal preferences without fearing that you’ll miss out on anything.
