In Medieval Dynasty, much of the game revolves around unlocking a scheme and then using it to build. Even the pickaxe schemes have to be discovered and purchased first. One exception is the stone pickaxe. It is possible to make it right at the beginning, and it doesn't need a scheme.
Continue leveling production technology to unlock the bronze and iron pickaxe scheme. This will also unlock the smithy. You earn technology points in production technology by crafting items or by cooking and baking food.
Bronze Pickaxe: To make a bronze pickaxe, you need to earn at least 500 technology points in production technology. Then, for 350 coins, you can buy the scheme for the bronze pickaxe and make it on an anvil in the smithy.
Iron Pickaxe: You need at least 5000 production technology for an iron pickaxe. Once you have achieved this, you can buy the scheme for 750 coins and produce the iron pickaxe at the anvil.
