The Brimstone Sand Desert became available as a new area for end-game characters in New World. The zone brings not only a lot more quests and story elements but also additional crafting recipes. One of them involves a special armor that requires you to craft an item called Chitin Padding.
What’s it about: As part of New World’s Brimstone update, you’ll be able to craft a special new armor, Chitin Armor. This armor has resistance to acid damage. This guide explains why this is important, and how you can craft the Chitin Armor and the necessary Chitin Padding.
Chitin Armor in New World – What you Need it for
Why do you need acid resistance? Since the introduction of the Brimstone Sands update for New World, there are the so-called Runeglass gems. These gems represent improved versions of existing gems and are, therefore, of particular importance for the endgame of New World.
However, to be able to produce rune glass gems, you require specific amounts of sulfur as well as other resources. You can only get them at unique sulfur pools, whose acid causes much damage and reduces your character’s health to zero in no time.
The same applies to further areas in the brimstone sand desert and possibly the new world boss. So to prevent an agonizing acid death, you require acid resistance—and that’s where the chitin armor comes in.
New World: Chitin Padding – How to Craft it
What do you need to make the Chitin Padding? The basis of the chitin armor in New World is the so-called chitin padding. Depending on the armor piece, you will need a certain amount of this item. Because it’s a legendary item, you’ll have to invest a little time to farm all the necessary resources.
Per chitin padding you need:
- 1 x chitin plate (can be made with leatherworking from chitin parts, layered leather and tannin)
- 5 x aloe gel
- 30 x cactus fruit pulp
- 3 x rune leather
- 3 x Phoenix fabric
For each piece of chitin armor, you will need one chitin padding and one chitin plate. So, you will need to craft 10 chitin plates if you want to craft the entire set. Accordingly, you will need resources for the complete set in addition to the special components of each set piece:
- 80 x chitin parts
- 20 x layered leather
- 10 x tannin
- 50 x aloe gel
- 300 x cactus fruit pulp
- 30 x rune leather
- 30 x Phoenix fabric
Chitin Padding: Finding all Resources
Here you can get the individual resources for the Chitin Padding and Chitin Plate: You can get the mentioned resources at the following locations:
- Chitin Pieces: Loot from the large scorpions in the desert of Hedjet Canyon.
- Layered Leather: Loot from boars (various locations; look at our interactive map).
- Cactus Flesh: Loot from cacti in the Sulfur Sand Desert.
- Aloe gel: Collectibles from succulents in the Sulfur Sand Desert (are often directly associated with cacti).
Rune leather and Phoenix fabric require a bit more effort. You can buy this resource directly at the trading post or make it yourself. If you don’t have the appropriate weaving and leatherworking skills, we recommend buying them at the trading post.
How to craft Chitin Armor: Once you have collected all the resources for each armor piece, you can craft light, medium, and heavy armor at the respective crafting stations. Depending on the gems and perks used, the armor has up to 600 gearscore and is accordingly of epic quality.
