It's wipe time in Rust and all players start from the beginning and so the hard fight for resources, weapons, vehicles and bases begins. We have 10 tips and tricks for raiding and defending your base, some of which you probably don't know yet.
What is it about? In Rust, the late-game task consists mainly of attacking other players' bases and stealing all their possessions. Not only Rust beginners can still learn a lot, but even supposed pros can incorporate a trick or two into their raiding plan. Not only that, there are also a few tips for defending your own four walls -- in Rust, it's more like 100 walls. So we have collected 10 different tips and tricks for raiding and basic defense for you. Prepare for the raid in advance and calculate the exact number of missiles and explosives.
Water guns can put out fires. If you get attacked with a flamethrower early in the wipe, you can use it to put out the fire. Always have a water pistol on hand. The water gun is only available in the Sunburn DLC, which currently costs $9.99.
You usually can't put a new door in a blown doorframe during a raid. However, it is possible to place a Vending Machine in the now open area! So while you're under attack, you can repair lost doors quickly this way. They are also stronger than metal walls, which works great as a quick and easy barricade.
If you get locked in an airlock during a raid in Rust, you can still save the loot you got. You have to stand with your back to the exit door, look at the ceiling and kill yourself with the F1 command. Your character's head will then be stuck in the door you turned your back on and you can loot your corpse.
When raiding a base, you should take smoke grenades with you. Throw these right in front of the entrance to the base to make it harder for your enemies to defend themselves from the raid. The smoke will keep them from rushing out of the base firing lead and sifting through you. For another, if they do push, you have the scouting advantage on your side. You'll see the enemy before they can even see your outline.
You can place twig floors in the base of enemies while actively raiding in Rust. You can do this even if there is a door in the way. This way, you can separate different floors from each other and force your opponents to destroy the floor with loud noise. You'll prevent them from sneaking up on you that way.
You can turn your base into a bunker with the help of vending machines. All you need is a "basement", or a level below the first floor. Build a triangular room, and close the hole to the basement with a wooden floor plate. Then build the door frame and door and place the vending machine as close as possible behind the door. You, as the base owner, can steadily remove the machine and quickly destroy the wooden floor. Attackers, however, must destroy the door and vending machine. And as we learned earlier, it can withstand as much as a metal wall.
You can use the new electricity mechanic to unlock and lock doors at random intervals. Properly wired, this circuit causes your door and or connected gate to randomly open and close, making players think someone is home. This may well prevent you from being raided offline.
Build ramps leading to the entrance of your base and wall up the lower area. To prevent enemies from looking into your base, place a garage door in front of the ramp and leave a hollow space. You can quickly shoot door campers through the gap in the ramp.
You can attach grenades to hatches, doors, shutters or garage doors and then open them. If you place the hatch, door, or shutter correctly, this allows you to take out players outside your base with a grenade. This is because the explosives in Rust stick to the door, even if it clips through walls. The less toxic way is to stick a flash-bang grenade to doors, garages, etc. The range of the glare is even higher than a blast radius, and you can push right after it and finish off the enemies yourself.
To see more when defending or attacking a base, you can make bushes disappear or use them to your advantage. To cut them down, you just need to place a foundation, and they will disappear in a large-scale radius. To use them as an advantage - especially when attacking - place palisades (large wooden wall) in them and set up a shotgun trap. Normally you can't place guns in bushes, but thanks to the palisade you can. If your opponents want to storm your position, they are in for a nasty surprise, because the traps/guns are hidden in the leaves. Should your enemies ever use this tactic, you'll have to knock down their walls quickly!
