In Starfield, you have the option to join the Crimson Fleet, even though they are one of the main antagonists. Our guide will show you what you need to do to join this pirate faction.

How to join the Crimson Fleet (TLDR):

  • Commit a crime during the main quest "No Sudden Moves" and then get arrested.
  • Alternatively, complete the Vanguard quest "Supra et ultra." This will place you undercover with the Crimson Fleet for SysDef.
  • Joining the Fleet is financially rewarding, but don’t expect to have friends outside of it.
Who exactly are the factions of Starfield? The answer can be found in this article: All Major Factions Explained, Which Should You Join?

Should You Join Crimson Fleet in Starfield & How do You do That?

The universe of Starfield is populated by numerous factions you can join, including the Crimson Fleet. You'll encounter those guys early in the game when the pirates attack the mines on Kreet. This faction is dedicated entirely to plundering and targets essentially anything and anyone carrying valuable cargo.

The Fleet also has a declared enemy: the United Colonies. Ever since the Fleet's activities were confined to the Kryx system, these criminals have been disrupting the operations of the UC and the Freestar Collective.

Although the Crimson Fleet shows no interest in history on the level of the individual, it nevertheless attaches importance to its own background. At least that's what the statements of the leader Delgado suggest, but he also mentions that the founder of the fleet, Jasper Kryx, is supposed to have buried a huge treasure somewhere. Could this be the reason for the fleet's interest in self-history?

This is How Joining the Crimson Fleet Works

As part of the main quest "No Sudden Moves", you are practically forced to commit a crime. Have the security forces arrest you for it; alternatively, as a member of the United Colonies, you can also complete the quest "Supra et Ultra". John Tuala will then use you in an undercover mission against the Crimson Fleet.

In case of your arrest, however, the story takes a similar course. Only it will be the commander of the UC Vigilance who will ask you to infiltrate the Crimson Fleet by delivering a shipment of Aurora to Cydonia.

More about Starfield

The exact location of the fleet will be revealed to you by the broker Saoirse Bowden, who will lead you to Adler Kemp in the Broken Spear Bar. Here you have to settle someone else's debt by tracking down the debtor or paying off the debt yourself.

Once this is done, Naeva Mora sends you to the orbit of Europa. There you will have to find and "dispose" of a traitor aboard a medical supply ship. When you return to Naeva, the ship is under fire from the Ecliptic Mercenaries.

After this space battle, you will receive an invitation from Naeva to The Key, the headquarters of the Crimson Fleet. There, your membership in the fleet will be sealed without further ado.

When is the Crimson Fleet a good fit for you?

Of course, a career with the Crimson Fleet is synonymous with an "evil path," but we know: there are cookies on the dark side. Thus, the space pirates have the most money, the most weapons, and also the most items in the game.

Besides, smuggling is part of the simple daily business here. In this respect, a run as a member of the Crimson Fleet can be quite fun and satisfying. The price to pay, of course, is that you won't be very popular outside of the fleet.
