The Climbing Axe in The Forest should be part of your standard equipment and should be collected early in the game. With it, you master steep cave faces or walls without any problems.

You can find the climbing axe in Cave 9, the Groin Cave. There it is at the end of the cave, illuminated in the wall.
How to get to the cave: You can either choose the entrance to the cave northwest of the large gorge as a starting point or start at the exit of the cave. This actual exit of cave 9 is not particularly difficult to find and also the shorter way to the climbing axe, so we show you this way here. The starting point is very close to the big gorge, to the east of it. Look for two tents, the entrance is right next to them.

Here's where you'll find the Climbing Axe: Climb down the rope at the cave entrance. Once you're at the bottom, turn around and run to the edge of the cliff. Caution is advised here. Don't let yourself fall down. You won't survive the fall. Instead, duck and crawl along the wall to the left. Best to turn on a light to see all the ledges.
In a crouch, keep pushing to the left until you're sure you can't go any further down to the left. Then drop onto the next small ledge and immediately press the back arrow once you land on the ledge.
When you reach the bottom of the cave, you still have to cross two small ponds. After the second pond with a corpse hanging over it, between three and five mutants are waiting for you. It's best to bring a few arrows with you or come in a group. Once the mutants are gone, you can keep running until you reach a new chamber and you're back on a cliff. Again, you should not let yourself fall, but first take the path to the right over the rocks and slide down from there.
The climbing ax is waiting for you at the bottom of the wall. However, this is again guarded by mutants. Either you finish them off with ranged attacks from a rock, or you quickly run to the axe, collect it, equip it immediately and climb back up the wall.
In The Forest, you can use the climbing ax to climb steep walls in caves or outside on walls where you cannot find a climbing rope. You can often get down a cave wall by dropping from ledge to ledge, but without a climbing ax you can no longer get up. Of course, there are also walls or walls where you cannot lower yourself down without a climbing axe. The climbing ax is therefore a must-have for every The Forest player.
In principle, you can also use the climbing ax as a melee weapon. She even has a very high attack speed but does very little damage. You can chop up corpses with her, but you can't chop down trees. The climbing ax cannot be upgraded. But that is actually not necessary, since it is primarily only intended for climbing, and it masters this task perfectly.
