The chainsaw in The Forest is an extremely useful tool. It helps you to collect certain raw materials, can also be used as a weapon and combined with other materials and upgraded.

To get the chainsaw, you have to go inside Cave 3. You can do this through several entrances.
How to get to the cave: The best entry into cave 3 is a little hidden and easy to miss. It is located in the west of the peninsula, almost exactly at the level of the large gorge, halfway between it and the sea.
Here you will find the chainsaw: As soon as you have entered the cave, you walk straight out. After a short time you will reach an intersection where three corpses (you can take their watches off right away) are hanging from the ceiling. There you go to the right until you come to a place where you have to climb down. There is no fixed rope here. So you should already have the climbing ax in your inventory.
Once at the bottom, you have to walk straight ahead again until you reach the climbing rope. Rappel down and follow the path to a camp. Here you will not only find useful utensils such as rope or petrol, but also the chainsaw. It's on a table by the left wall.
The chainsaw is arguably the best way to fell trees. It does not consume any stamina as it is powered by gasoline, which you can find all over the island. So you get from tree to tree very quickly. In addition, the pure sawing time is extremely short. In most cases, you saw through the second log before the first one fell. It is therefore the tool of choice if you want to collect wood or tree trunks as efficiently as possible.
In The Forest, you can use the chainsaw to chop down trees extremely quickly.
Attention: The high noise of the chainsaw usually attracts very large mutants.
You can also use the chainsaw as a melee weapon. However, it does comparatively little damage against the mutants. These are regularly stunned for this. Your attacks with the saw stop automatically as soon as you are hit by an attack yourself. Also, while attacking with the chainsaw, your movement speed is reduced by about half.
