The Katana in The Forest is a cool melee weapon that gives you a good advantage in certain locations. It’s easy and safe to get, but it also has a few downsides that you shouldn’t underestimate.

This is where you can find the Katana in The Forest
To get the Katana you have to go inside Cave 1. You can enter this through a total of three different entrances.
How to get to the cave: The best entrance to cave 1 is the one that is in the far east, not far from the river. Located southeast of the great canyon, it is the only one not guarded by mutants or cannibals.
This is where you’ll find the Katana: Rappel down into the cave and run to the nearest rope to climb up. When climbing up, you should never turn on the light, otherwise, you will be visible. When you get to the top, the path forks into a left and a right passage.
On the right, a mutant and several cannibals are waiting for food. In order not to be spotted, you have to crouch and go into the left passage without a light. There are several planks lying around on the ground that look like small bridges. Once you cross the first bridge, you can walk normally again and also use a lighter to see better. After the first bridge, the path forks again. Take the right passage here and keep walking straight ahead.
After a short while, you will come to a camp where you can pull the Katana out of a corpse. In addition to the blade, you can also collect a lot of loot such as money, medicine, watches, etc.
How to use the Katana in The Forest
The Katana is a melee weapon with an extremely high attack speed. You can use it to attack so quickly that your opponents don’t have a chance to recover or counterattack. Even if the item description shows a block value of 0, you can still block with the Katana. The blocking ability is still one of the worst in the game.
The Katana is also not the best weapon in terms of damage. The high attack speed can only partially compensate for this, as seven stamina are consumed per attack. In comparison, the modern axe, for example, does about three times the damage but consumes only 7.8 stamina.
Unfortunately, the Katana cannot be upgraded. So you have no way to improve the damage to stamina ratio. All in all, the Katana is not only an extremely cool weapon, but also one that is very easy to use. Since it can also be collected without enemy contact, you should definitely get it.
