The Baryonyx in ARK: Survival Evolved is a piscivore, but will also attack any land creature that comes into its line of sight. Its ability to move on land and in water makes it useful as a mount for you.
Find out everything you need to know about the fish-eater in our guide to the Baryonyx. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.
This is the Baryonyx in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: The Baryonyx looks like a fierce mix of Kaprosuchus and Spinosaurus, its size is comparable to that of the Carnotaurus. Its physique is more like that of Spinosaurus, with powerful hind legs and long arms equipped with sharp claws. Quite large spikes run from its head to its back. Its head is more like that of the Kaprosuchus, with small eyes and a crocodile-like snout equipped with jagged teeth.
Wild: Like the Spinosaurus, the Baryonyx lives near bodies of water. Because it is a fish eater, it often enters the water to catch and kill its prey. Like the Kaprosuchus, it swims diagonally in the water. If you encounter it, you can expect to be directly attacked by this highly aggressive predator. He will also attack your mount or other nearby creatures without warning.
Domesticated: Although the Baryonyx is not the fastest mount, its ability to move and fight well on land and water makes it very useful. Using his spin attack, he can stun other creatures for up to 10 seconds.
How to tame the Baryonyx in ARK
How to hunt the Baryonyx: There are several ways to tame the Baryonyx. The simplest is to set bear traps around you and lure him into them. If you have a chain bola, you can use it to anchor the Baryonyx as well. Once he’s pinned down, smack him with the tranquilizer darts.
If you have leveled up enough stamina and speed, you can of course run away from him and shoot tranquilizer darts at him again and again. It’s not the smartest way to tame it, but it can work.
The safest way is to build a trap for him like the T-Rex out of three Dino stone or metal archways. Set up the gates in a square shape and place a bear trap or two in the middle. Make sure you always leave a little space between the goals. Now you have to put the gates in the archways. Close all gates except the two you escape through.
Now you lure in the Baryonyx. You provoke him into following you. The important thing here is that you have a faster mount or a very high movement speed so that you can also escape. If he follows you, run through the open gates of your construction – but don’t step into the bear trap yourself.
Once the Baryonyx is stuck in the bear trap, close the two open gates and shoot him with tranquilizer darts until he’s knocked out. You can easily do this through the gaps you left between the gates. Depending on the level of the Baryonyx, this can take some time and resources.
How to tame him: Once he’s unconscious, put Fish Meat or kibble in his inventory and feed him that. The better the meat, the faster the taming. To keep the Baryonyx down and the Stun up, it’s best to use the Narcotic or Narcoberries.

How to breed the Baryonyx in ARK
This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of a Baryonyx is 18 to 48 hours.
How to Hatch Eggs: If you have obtained a fertilized Baryonyx Egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. For this, the ambient temperature of the egg should be between 29 °C and 35 °C. According to standard settings, the little Baryonyx baby hatches after about 2 hours. After that, it takes about 4.5 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting meat in its inventory.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed from troughs on its own. The entire ripening time lasts about 1 day and 22.5 hours.
