Amnesia: The Bunker is the latest creation by the horror artists from Frictional Games. Now the upcoming underground terror in World War I has a release date, and the good news is that fans won’t have to wait too long for it.
The Bunker is coming in a few months: After the “merely” solid Rebirth, Frictional Games is gearing up to return to top form in Amnesia: The Bunker. The unveiling of the sequel is less than two months ago, yet the Swedes have already announced the release date: On May 16, 2023, we are supposed to go underground.
The presumed survival horror from the first-person perspective will be released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. We reproduce the wording of the corresponding press release here. Whether this statement includes last-gen consoles or finally buries them is not clear from the text.
In The Bunker You Only Have One Bullet in the Barrel
What is known so far about the latest installment of the Amnesia series, suggests a gripping and highly creepy horror trip. And that’s because Amnesia: The Bunker leaves the hero of the story stranded in a World War I bunker with only a single bullet in his gun barrel. And anyone who knows Amnesia will probably cringe in fear at the mere thought of it.
As the French soldier Henri Clément, it’s up to you to “face the oppressive horrors in the dark” in the stuffy bunker. Or maybe not, because on the other hand, you’re supposed to keep the lights on at all costs while you go in search of an exit.
Procedural generation: In order to keep the bunker trip interesting in the long run, Frictional Games resorts to randomly designed corridors. Likewise, the enemy behavior should not be predictable. To make matters worse, you won’t be able to do much against the pests, especially since your equipment only includes a loud dynamo flashlight and equipment found on the way. Besides the already mentioned, almost useless revolver.
Time pressure and crafting: And that’s not all, unfortunately, because according to the game description, time works against you on top of that. What’s that supposed to mean, however, remains unclear. At least, according to the developers, you will be able to craft tools from the resources placed everywhere. Along with that, Frictional promises that you can (and must) “experiment” your way out of the bunker. Solutions will therefore not be set in stone.
