The rumor mill around CoD Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 is bubbling, because fans are eagerly waiting for new information about the Tarkov-like mode DMZ. But now there are first concrete indications that cause astonishment among the community.
What's going on? Rumors that the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 might get a so-called DMZ mode have been circulating for a while. This game mode is supposed to be similar to the survival shooter Escape From Tarkov. But now there is finally a real hint that and when a corresponding feature will make its way into the shooter series, namely in the ESRB rating of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
What's the deal with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2's DMZ mode? For a few weeks now, rumors have been piling up that Activision is planning a DMZ game mode in the style of Escape from Tarkov for the next Call of Duty. This is a PvPvE game variant in which players compete in teams against other players and NPCs and fulfill certain missions.
What does the ESRB rating reveal? After several leakers referred to insider sources and claimed that the developers were planning such a mode, the Twitter account @charlieINTEL published a leaked screenshot. The accompanying photo shows a DMZ lettering and allegedly comes from a pre-release version of the shooter that the NFL team of the Los Angeles Rams was allowed to play.
In addition, the ESRB rating of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has now surfaced, which explicitly mentions a DMZ mode. The ESRB rating is the US counterpart to the German USK release and is therefore considered a credible source. This piece of information was brought up by the YouTube channel "Video Game Leaks":
Activision will probably only release DMZ Mode with the release of Warzone 2, which is supposed to come out a little less than a month after Modern Warfare 2. At least, that's what the ESRB rating points to.
Such a release policy would also make sense insofar as the developers want to continue the story of Modern Warfare 2 after the end of the campaign via the DMZ mode. This is supposed to happen via a separate storyline, among other things, as the leakers TheGhostofHope and RalphsValve have confirmed:
A delayed release of the DMZ mode for the release of Modern Warfare 2 would therefore be quite conceivable: After all, most players would probably have played through the campaign of Modern Warfare 2 by then. By the way, we will probably find out on September 15, 2022, when the next Call of Duty Next Showcase takes place, whether there will actually be a DMZ mode in CoD Modern Warfare 2.
