- Update 3.0 “Age of Sorcery” will be the biggest Conan Exiles update ever.
- Magic finally comes into play, with spells and bloody rituals.
- Corruption gets a more important role and can make your character stronger.
- The building system will be revised, especially for console players, it is now more intuitive.
- All new DLCs are free, instead, there is a BattlePass and in-game shop.
What’s going on? if you thought Conan Exiles had already shown everything that’s possible with its last major expansion, the Isle of Siptah, you’d be wrong. In an almost 7-minute announcement trailer, “Age of Sorcery” was presented as the biggest update ever released for Conan Exiles. Version 3.0 changes quite a bit and finally brings the magic to the game that players have been waiting for for a long time.
But that’s just the beginning: All upcoming updates will be divided into ages. Age of Sorcery covers the age of sorcery. Each subsequent Age will have its own BattlePass, new content, and changes.
That’s the magic in Conan Exiles
The world of Conan the Barbarian is not only full of muscular men, scantily clad women, lots of fighting or drinking, but also magic and curses. But that’s exactly what was missing in Conan Exiles, the survival MMO in the world of Conan the Barbarian. With the 3.0 update, this is supposed to change and magic is finally finding its way into the game.
Magic is divided into 2 types:
These are Rituals in Conan Exiles
Rituals are more related to the magic you “make”. You have your magic workbench or a sacrifice station in your base and you can perform various rituals there. You can then use them to summon creatures, such as undead minions or mounts.
You can also sacrifice your serfs at the sacrificial stone and fuel further rituals with their blood.
With the rituals, other fast travel options come into play. So you can build a portal in your base that is powered by blood and brimstone.
These are Spells in Conan Exiles
In the video, the developers are currently only going into one type of spell; illusions Illusion spells allow you to customize the style of armor and weapons. Even if you’re wearing different sets, you can make it seem like everything goes together.
Other spells have not yet been discussed. Until the release in Q3, however, the developers want to talk more about the upcoming changes in Update 3.0 in their blog posts.
Changes to the perks and attributes
In Conan Exiles you get attribute points with every level up, which you can freely invest in strength, mobility, endurance or other attributes. The more points you invest, the more perks you unlock that give you special bonuses.
This is what happens with corruption: now that magic is coming into play with Update 3.0 and corruption – the negative state that you acquire in corrupted areas – is becoming all the more important, the developers have also come up with something exciting here.
As your own corruption progresses, your character will change visually. In the end he looks more like a vampire than a human. While this has disadvantages, since the corruption permanently reduces your vital stats, it now also has advantages.
This gives you additional attribute points that you can spend to unlock corruption perks. For example, you can change the level 15 Charisma perk by investing 15 Corruption points and overriding the effect:
- Normal: Your active minions receive +50% healing.
- Corruption: Damage dealt by your minions heals you.
So you can let your character corrupt and become a merciless overlord.
Building system overhaul makes it easier to build on consoles
Funcom looked at the building system in Conan Exiles and compared it to modern survival titles. The outdated feature will be modernized with 3.0 and should be much easier to use than before, especially for console players.
Components, recipes, furniture, decorations, and everything that goes with them can now be found in a single menu, are better sorted, and can also be filtered again. When building a huge fortress, it is no longer necessary to constantly search for the correct items for minutes.
In addition, with Update 3.0, the first real creative mode comes into play, with which you have easy access to all items and build your castle as you wish. Previously, this was only possible with cumbersome admin commands or the admin tool.
In-game shop and BattlePass replace DLC policy
Previously, you had to pay for Conan Exiles as well as all DLCs, whether cosmetic or full expansions like the Isle of Siptah. This should change from version 3.0.
The next major expansion, Age of Sorcery, will be free for all Conan Exiles owners and will bring 2 new features to the game to support the game financially; The in-game shop and a BattlePass.
This is the Conan Exiles in-game shop
In the in-game shop you can only find cosmetic items or buy entire DLCs. The shop is constantly being fed with new content, but you can also produce some new skins directly in the game without spending any money.
What most packages ultimately cost or whether you can get the CROM COINS in another way, for example in the BattlePass, is still unknown.
This is the Conan Exiles Battle Pass
The main purpose of the BattlePass in Conan Exiles is to ensure that further free updates are possible without getting into financial distress. So if you want to support the development, you can get the BattlePass.
This is included in the BattlePass: The BattlePass contains armour, weapons and also mounts that are in the theme of the update. So in this first case, magic. But also other little things like coins (probably for the shop), decorations for your fortress and cosmetic items like dyes.
This is how you level up in the BattlePass: You can level up the pass by mastering daily challenges such as defeating monsters or collecting resources and receiving experience points accordingly. If you don’t feel like it or don’t have enough time and more money in your pocket, you can also buy 1, 5, or 10 levels.
The developers at Funcom have not spoken about whether there will be a free BattlePass or a premium version. Until the release in Q3, however, the devs will certainly have to go into details and also have to answer the questions from the community, which often express Pay2Win’s concerns with a BattlePass and in-game shop.
We’re excited to see what the consequences of the new changes in the world of Conan Exiles will be and we’ll stay tuned for you.
