The Stegosaurus is one of the more well-known dinosaurs in ARK: Survival Evolved. With its large horn plates along its back, it can hardly be overlooked and it is particularly well suited as a pack animal and for farming wood, berries or fibers.
Find out everything you need to know about the herbivore in our Stegosaurus guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.
This is the Stegosaurus in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: The stegosaurus is best known for its 32 horn plates running down its back, often brightly colored and arranged in a double row. At the end of its tail, it has 3 pairs of long spikes that it uses for defense. Its head is very small in relation to its massive body. The Stegosaurus has a small beak with small teeth.
Wild: As a peaceful herd animal, you will rarely find the Stegosaurus alone. The herbivore will only attack you if you injure or threaten it. You should make sure that there are no other stegosauruses nearby, as they will immediately attack you to protect one of their own.
Tamed: You can use the Stegosaurus as a safe means of transport. Larger quantities can also be transported easily. Its horn plates serve as additional protection against enemy arrows. If it attacks, it will defend you with its spikes on its tail, which can also be used to knock enemies away. It is most commonly tamed for gathering wild berries, wood, and fiber, which it can quickly and easily harvest with its tail.
How to tame the Stegosaurus in ARK
This is how you hunt the stegosaurus: You take a crossbow or your bow and just run away from it in a very unspectacular way. In between, you turn around and shoot him. This is possible due to its slow speed, but make sure you keep enough distance, so you don’t get caught by its tail or trampled on. You can even defeat a low-level Stegosaurus with a slingshot.
How to tame him: Once he’s unconscious, put Mejoberries or kibble in his inventory and feed them to tame him. To keep the stunning value up while taming, it’s best to use Narcoberries or Narcotic. Normally, the Stegosaurus is quickly tamed.

How to feed a Stegosaurus in ARK
Once you have tamed your stegosaurus, it is important to know what it likes to eat. Stegosaurs are herbivores, which of course makes the choice of food easier.
This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of a Stegosaurus is 18 to 48 hours.
How to hatch eggs: If you get a fertilized Stegosaurus egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. For this, the ambient temperature of the egg should be between 22 °C and 28 °C. According to standard settings, the little stegosaur baby hatches after about 3 hours. After that, it takes about 5 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting berries, vegetables, etc. (see above) in its inventory. Pay attention to the embossing intervals every 8 hours to tickle the greatest potential out of the baby.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed from troughs on its own. The entire ripening time takes about 2 days and 3.5 hours.
