In the second episode of the eighth season finale of Fear The Walking Dead, we get another glimpse of a possible cure for the Wildfire zombie virus.
What it’s about? The latest episode of Fear The Walking Dead is all about June, who for some reason cuts off the fingers of Padre collectors and collects them in a jar. However, in the course of the episode, she tells us about a former main character of the series whose infection was stopped by certain “influences”. What the cure for Wildfire is all about, we now reveal.
Fear The Walking Dead presents cure for the zombie virus
For a long time now, the origin of the zombie virus Wildfire is no longer an issue in The Walking Dead, but the cure and possible immunities, on the other hand, remain permanent guests. Most recently, the network AMC itself revealed that the character Alicia Clark had mysteriously recovered from her infection. At the time, we reported that this probably meant she was immune to the virus. However, the latest episode of Fear shows us: there is a cure that Alicia came into contact with.
This is what June tells us: In episode 802, Doctor June tells us that there is a chance for questionable healing. She worked on this for Padre in a remote lab and was partially successful. But for the patients, she says, the pain of the procedure is almost unbearable, and the success rate is also very low. Still, June explains, she has already had success with the new treatment, which we are already using for another unstoppable disease: Cancer.
In The Walking Dead, an infection can be fought with radiation and in a few cases even completely cured. Alicia involuntarily underwent this radiation therapy when she marauded through the irradiated area in Texas. For most fans — us included — Alicia’s non-transformation was more a sign that she was imagining everything, as she had known no alternative but to transform after being bitten. Now we know:
- Alica didn’t imagine the infection and really suffered from the deadly wildfire fever.
- She is not simply immune but was involuntarily part of a radiation treatment.
The latter cured her of her infection and she was damn lucky with that. Indeed, in the episode itself, we see countless guinea pigs who have been transformed. But as if that wasn’t enough, these have clear symptoms of radiation sickness. These injuries indicate the tremendous dose of radiation needed to cure a patient.
What happens with the cure for the Virus in the future?
Padre’s program to fight Wildfire is on hold so far. However, a Padre task force was able to capture June and forces her to continue the research with Dwight and Sherry’s son Finch. In the coming episodes, we’ll likely see the cure being tested directly. We suspect the success of June, who should then soon share her results with the world. The Walking Dead universe could therefore become truly zombie-free in the next few years. Unlike in the comics, where humans band together in the future and gradually eradicate the biters.
