There was a data leak at Activision in December, and details of the 2023 roadmap have emerged. According to this, Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 players can expect new maps, weapons, and events.
Here’s what’s happening: Activision suffered a data leak on December 4th, 2022, and hackers accessed confidential release data and plans. These have now been leaked to the public, and industry insider Tom Henderson also confirms the data leak (via insider-gaming). There are details of when further seasons can be expected, bringing new maps, weapons, and events into the game. However, it is not sure whether this information is genuine.
Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Data Breach shows all Seasons in 2023
Hackers/leakers got hold of data from Activision employees via fake text messages and were thus able to secure access to various data in December 2022. Now some information has been leaked to the public and pictures of a calendar showing the time periods of the next seasons and their contents have appeared on Twitter:
(BREAKING) Activision was hacked! A network-privileged user was successfully phished by threat actors. They stole confidential work records, including upcoming MWII seasons that was going to be release till Nov. 17, 2023.
Activision did not warn anyone.

According to this, there are already release dates for the individual seasons, but these have not been confirmed by Activision. The calendar entries also reveal what players can expect; new maps, more weapons, operators and a haunting event:
Season 3 Contents
- Release: March 15 – May 15
- 2 new operators, 1 licensed
- 3 new weapons
- 3 Core Maps, 1 Battle Map, 4 Gunfights, 1 Spec Ops #1, Raid T#3
- Tier 1 Event
- 1 BP, Tier 1 Event, 70 Bundles
Contents of Season 4
- Release: May 15 – June 16
- 2 new operators, 1 licensed
- 3 new weapons
- 2 Core Maps, 2 Battle Map, 4 Gunfights, 1 Spec Ops #1, Raid T#4, 1 Small Map
- Tier 1 Event
- 1 BP, Tier 1 Event, 70 Bundle
Contents of Season 5
- Realease: July 17th – September 14th
Season 6 Contents
- Release: September 15 – November 8
- 2 new operators, 1 licensed
- 3 new weapons
- 2 maps
- Haunting of Saba Event
- 1 BP, Tier 1 Event, 70 Bundles
This means that Modern Warfare 2 / Warzone 2 will also get a Halloween event with Haunting of Saba, as other Call of Duty games and Warzone 1 already had. During the old events, there were horror-themed bundles and often cooperations with well-known franchises such as Scream or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Activision has since spoken out about the incidents:
„The security of our data is paramount, and we have comprehensive information security protocols in place to ensure its confidentiality. On December 4, 2022, our information security team swiftly addressed an SMS phishing attempt and quickly resolved it. Following a thorough investigation, we determined that no sensitive employee data, game code, or player data was accessed.“
The developer says that no data has been lost. Whether the leaked data is real cannot be said with certainty. But we will keep you up to date.
