Before the second season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 begins on February 15, 2023, some changes to the DMZ mode are causing a stir in the community. The developers are adopting a feature from Escape from Tarkov, which might not be to the liking of all fans.
Update, 31.01.2023: Good news for DMZ fans: Developer Infinity Ward has now announced on Twitter that the weapon slots will not be reset with the release of Season 2. The wipe will, therefore, only affect the faction tiers.
For additional clarity on DMZ, Insured Weapon slots will not reset with Season 02.
More details to come in this week's blog. Stay tuned!

What’s going on? The developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have explained in a detailed blog post which changes are planned for MW 2 and Warzone 2.0 with Season 2. The community, however, is reacting less enthusiastically to a particular adaptation.
DMZ Season 2 starts with wipes – feels like Tarkov
What exactly is happening with Season 2? The bone of contention concerns a point that the developers mention rather incidentally in their blog post about Season 2. Because, similar to what happens regularly in Escape From Tarkov, the release of the new Season resets all of your weapon slots and your faction tiers. So there will be a complete wipe when DMZ Season 2 launches.
Why is the wipe not a sensible idea in the case of DMZ? While DMZ fans are venting their frustration about the wipe on Twitter and elsewhere – after all, they invested a lot of time and work to reach Tier 5 – YouTuber MrDalekJD explains why the wipe isn’t needed.
In his opinion, the inventory plays a less critical role in DMZ than in Escape From Tarkov. Because in DMZ we don’t lose our self-customized weapons for good, we can use them again after a certain waiting period. So if you have already reached Tier 5, you can fall back on a large arsenal of equipment that, unlike in Escape from Tarkov, cannot be lost permanently.
If the developers now perform a complete wipe with the release of Season 2, all players will have to start from scratch and complete the base missions again. This could cause frustration for many advanced fans.
Wipe Could also Increase Replay Value
However, MrDalekJD also points out that a wipe for DMZ combined with the release of entirely new missions, as planned for Season 2, will ensure continued high replay value. So it remains to be seen how the community will deal with the wipe in the long run and how the developers will further adapt their concept.
The developers plan to go into more detail about Season 2 on February 08 and present more information about the upcoming small map for Warzone 2.0, including the return of Resurgence.
