We got gameplay of the upcoming sci-fi role-playing game Starfield for the first time. After seeing the trailer, we think: Surely this is No Man's Sky 2!
What happened? During the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase on June 12, 2022, we got exclusive gameplay for Starfield for the first time. This is the new major project from Bethesda Game Studios, who are known for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. The gameplay itself is strongly reminiscent of another space explorer.

What does the trailer show? The trailer starts with a landing on the moon Kreet. As the first action, our protagonist scans a tree. After that, he scans a breed of animal and then an iron deposit in a cave -- Phew. Then the action-packed part of the game begins. A gunfight breaks out, with weapons crashing out of the subwoofer. That's great!
The player's spaceship is also in focus. To all appearances, it is free to walk around. You can even build your ship from scratch:
And there's base building as well, but then again it follows in the vein of No Man's Sky. You build a beacon, then modules, and then you literally spray them into the landscape. And speaking of landscape, it's not completely randomly generated. In the trailer, we saw a star system that features a good dozen planets and moons. Most of them are empty ice deserts, gas giants are not accessible.
The reactions in the Twitch and YouTube chats are clear: Starfield is a mix of Fallout and No Man's Sky. Players fear resource grind and an open world that can't do justice to the setting. After all, Bethesda is developing its space explorer Starfield on an almost ancient engine that is known for bugs and problems.
What can you expect? Starfield offers some nice spots in space, weapons that let you feel every shot through your subwoofer, and exploration and resource farming à la No Man's Sky. However, we think it's too early for a final score or concerns. We just hope that Bethesda will get the best out of Starfield that they can.
