Freeing Lae’zel from the cage in Baldur’s Gate 3 is simple in itself, but it doesn’t work quite as you might expect. This guide shows you how to get your potential companion back on the ground.
Here’s the deal: Lae’zel is locked in a cage by two Tieflings in Baldur’s Gate 3, shortly after the Mind Flayer airship crashes near the Overgrown Ruins.
Lae’zel’s sole purpose in life seems to be to threaten or annoy you, but you must help this pestilence in its time of need. In this guide, you’ll learn exactly where to find Lae’zel, and how to free her from the cage.
This is How to Get Lae’zel Back Down in Baldur’s Gate 3
You will find the captured Lae’zel northeast of the crash site. Her location is between the Overgrown Ruins and Emerald Grove; the coordinates are X: 236, Y: 371 (see also the screenshot below). As soon as you enter the scene, a cutscene begins in which Lae’zel’s kidnappers, two Tieflings, notice and approach you.
It is possible to kindly convince the visually diabolical guys to disappear and leave Lae’zel to you. However, this requires a Persuasion die roll. Otherwise, the two must be “persuaded” using forge steel and magic.
Once the Tieflings have run away or lost their lives, Lae’zel yelps at you to free them from the cage immediately. The cage hangs a good distance above the ground, where it is beyond your reach. But fortunately there are bows and crossbows; equip one of them.
Experience says that a cage hanging down on a rope should be able to be brought down to the ground with a well-aimed shot through the rope. However, that’s not the case here, because you can’t even select the rope and thus can’t hit it.
The “trick”: You have to aim at the bottom of the cage with your bow or crossbow and fire at it. As a result, Lae’zel will naturally fall down to the ground. In case your party is not crowded at the moment, you can invite the bitchy Githyanki there. Otherwise, just send her to the camp, where she’ll wait for her turn. By the way, she has been doing this for at least 50 hours in our game.
