There are hundreds of mods yet: With Hogwarts Legacy, the Harry Potter franchise expanded with an excellent entry in the video game segment. And although the release was just 17 days ago, modifications for the title are causing mod databases to burst. NexusMods alone counted already more than 600 mods for Hogwarts Legacy on February 27th. From Fancy to Useful: 12 Great Mods for Hogwarts Legacy
FPS hotfix and engine tweaks
Poor performance and micro-stutters are still a problem in Hogwarts Legacy. However, Ascendio II.I fixes the FPS drops on a hotfix basis and applies certain Unreal Engine parameters to help resolve the performance issues.
Installation: In order to run Ascendio, you must have .NET 6 or higher installed on your computer. You should also have run Hogwarts Legacy at least once. Download the installer file and run it. Currently only the FPS hotfix “Lite” is compatible with Ray Tracing.
All characters as companions: Companion Mod
This mod makes any schoolmate or teacher follow you everywhere you go (even to the Room of Wishes). And yes, they behave almost as if this was intended by the game, i.e. you can go on all adventures together with your companions. The limitation is that a companion virtually copies you in battle. So if you cast Disillusionment, so does your companion.
Important: The Companions mod should not be active while you are doing your companion’s story quest. This could otherwise lead to bugs.
How to mod:
-
- Download the tools SQLiteStudio and Hogwarts Legacy Save Game Editor.
- Get your save file under the path:
%LOCALAPPDATA% \Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames\ %LOCALAPPDATA% \Hogwarts\Saved\SaveGames - Open the save file in HL Save Game Editor, navigate to the “Save File” tab and download “database 1” below.
- Open “database 1” in SQLiteStudio. Click on the table “miscdatadynamic” in the left panel and then click on “data” in the right panel. Look for the line “PlayerLastSet Companion (blank)”. There you simply replace “blank” with the name of the desired companion.
- Click on the green checkmark. Then upload the data you just edited in SQLLightStudio (“database 1”) to the Save Game Editor under the tab “Save File” and “Custom DB”. Now click on “Generate save file”.
- After that you just have to place the modified save file under its original name in the old location.
And that’s it!
Reset all talents by potion
With the wonderful “Talent Reset Potion”, you can reset all of your character’s abilities. The creator of the mod has commendably taken the trouble to implement the powerful potion authentically; that is, you can purchase the corresponding recipe from Pippin and then brew the potion.
The required ingredients are:
Light: 5x Hornclump Juice, 5x Shrivelfig, 5x Stench of the Dead, 3 minutes brewing time.
Medium: 15x Hornclump Juice, 15x Shrivelfig, 15x Stench of the Dead, 30 minutes brewing time
Heavy: 20x Hornclump Juice, 20x Shrivelfig, 20x Stench of the Dead, 90 minutes brew time
Installation: Copy the file downloaded from the link below:

Control the flying broom completely with the mouse
The controls of the flying broom are, as all PC players of Hogwarts Legacy know, strange, to put it kindly. Fortunately, “Mouse Controls for Broom” makes the cleaning tool completely controllable by mouse, including ascending and descending.
Installation: Download the 7z file below and unpack the archive to:
Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks |
If the mouse controls do not work, try this path instead:
Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods |
What might also help is resetting the controls via the options menu in the game.
Finding all collectibles quickly
If you want to complete Hogwarts Legacy 100%, “Legilimens” is your tool of choice. It analyzes your save file and tells you which collectibles you are missing. However, the best thing is that Legilimens spits out YouTube links on their locations on top of that. It should be noted that no quest items or quest rewards or items that you can buy from merchants are taken into account.
You can find your save state at:
%LOCALAPPDATA% \Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames\ %LOCALAPPDATA% \Hogwarts\Saved\SaveGames\ |
Installation: Download Legilimens.exe and run the file. The on-screen instructions will then guide you through the few steps.
Natural sharp lighting
Actually, this mod “just” removes washed-out gray light, but the result is remarkable. Take a look at the screenshots below. According to the developer, this performance-friendly patch uses Bloom, Toneman, Vibrance, HDR, Vignette and Clarity as shaders.
Installation:
- First download ReShade. Run the program and select Hogwarts Legacy as the game installation. Then click on “Direct3D 10/11/12” and select Standard effects, SweetFX, qUINT and AstrayFX in the list.
- Download the Natural Lighting mod from the link below and unzip the archive to:
-
\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64 - Press the home button in the game to bring up ReShade. Select “Natural Lighting” there.
Done. Your Hogwarts Legacy should look a lot better now.
Spiders, go away: Arachnophobia Mode
Hogwarts Legacy delivers role-playing game-typical spiders in masses. Fortunately for arachnophobes, however, there is a modification that removes all the scabby eight-legged creatures, or rather puts them in square boxes.
Installation: Download the ZIP folder linked below and unzip it to:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy |
Better Slytherins (Sebastian and Ominis)
The Slytherins Sebastian and Ominis get new 3D models from the mod “Better Slytherins”, which makes both wizards look “more adult and unique”. However, their basic look will not be changed in the process. The owl post and quest images in question remain original.
Installation: Download the mod files from NexusMods. Of course, only one of the two Sebastian versions can be used in the game. Unpack the archives and copy their contents to:
Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods |
You have to create the folder “~mods” if you haven’t already.
Shrek as flying broom
Flying brooms may be handy, but they are also somewhat dull flying machines. So why not fly on an ogre for a change? Not just any ogre, of course, nope, we’re talking about none other than the daredevil hero Shrek. Whether the rights holders will be amused by this modification remains to be seen. It’s best not to wait too long before downloading this unusual flying vehicle.
Installation: Download the ZIP folder linked below and unzip it:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy |
Make-up in the style of Wednesday Addams
Tim Burton’s series adaptation “Wednesday” is a big hit at Netflix. So it’s no surprise that a modder has now painted the girls of Hogwarts Legacy in the style of the creepy brat. But even without the Wednesday reference, the dark makeup is justified. After all, even J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World isn’t exactly an open-air tanning salon.
Installation: Download the ZIP folder from NexusMods and unpack it:
Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks |
Yennefer Outfit (The Witcher 3)
In the Witcher universe, there are more unpopular characters than Yennefer, so this entry could also come more surprising. The student of Tissaia de Vries stands out for her dark outfit in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and this is exactly what has now been recreated (based on the Dark Arts clothing) in Hogwarts Legacy.
Installation: Download the RAR file linked below and unzip it to:
Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks |
And the HUD is gone
Not much needs to be said about this mod, because what speaks against HUDs in the context of beautiful landscapes like in Hogwarts Legacy should be obvious. Mind you, the HUD is not removed by the mod, but can be conveniently turned on and off by pressing a button.
Installation:
- Download the latest versions of ReShade and ShaderToggler.
- Start ReShade and select Hogwarts Legacy as the game installation.
- Place the files “ShaderToggler.addon” and “ShaderToggler.ini” under:
-
Steam/steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64 - Bring the ReShade menu up via Capslock and (de)activate the HUD there.
- Link to modification
