What is it about? Just started and already overwhelmed? That’s what happened to me on my first day at Hogwarts. So many symbols, missions, and an incredibly intricate castle. The only way you can find your way around here is with an interactive map of Hogwarts or some hidden mechanic. Besides, is there no sleep, where are classes and do I have to wear this ugly hat? Hogwarts Legacy has solutions for all that and more, but it won’t tell you.

Beginner Tips: These secret mechanics Hogwarts Legacy won’t tell you.
1. Wayfinding made easy – how to get from A to B faster
Missions in Hogwarts Legacy are marked on the minimap and the overview map. If you select a mission and follow it, dots will appear on the mini-map to show you the way. Unfortunately, I can’t count the number of times I’ve been led astray by these dots. Do you know the stories of navigation devices that guided drivers into subways? Totally crazy, and I can totally relate after ending up in the girls’ bathroom instead of dark magic class.
Here’s how it works better: In addition to the points on the map, you can also summon a three-dimensional helper. To do this, press the upper arrow key on your directional pad. A book appears that flies ahead and leaves a glowing trail. The trail remains for about 15 seconds, so you can’t miss the way again.

2. Revelio can do even more than you think
Right at the beginning of the game, you learn the spell Revelio. With Revelio you can make objects in your environment visible that are actually hidden or behind walls. However, the radius is very small. However, Revelio can actually do much more than the X-Ray clothing scanner description promises.
For example, if you use Revelio while flying on your broom or mount, the spell reveals the entire map in a large radius. Not only boxes or puzzles are highlighted by the spell. Revelio will also suddenly show you landmarks, activities and important characters. With a larger radius, Hogwarts Legacy also becomes a bit easier in terms of collecting tasks. Therefore, invest a lot of talent points in the Revelio spell early in the game.

3. “I’ll call you in the morning!” – You don’t have to sit out the night, just sleep!
Every now and then, you will meet characters who have the peace away in the face of the goblin threat. For example, important quest givers will sometimes contact you only during the day or arrange to meet you at night. Now you can’t go to your dormitory and get your fur, mane, scales or feathers ruffled. So do you have to just sit out the night in Hogwarts Legacy?
No, fortunately, there is a “secret” mechanic here as well, which the game doesn’t tell you. You can sleep anytime and anywhere. The eternal waiting for a magical animal to spawn so you can put it in your vivarium has come to an end. It will also help you get through the story or side quests faster. Follow our instructions:
- Open the map
- Press R3 (right stick) and confirm
- Sleep until dawn or dusk.

4. Got an ugly hat? Don’t worry, you can hide it
Crack door puzzles, complete quests, or open one of the elusive eye boxes, and you’ll receive new equipment. These are often significantly better than the rags you’re wearing at the start of your magical journey. “Better” and stronger doesn’t mean nicer among wizards and witches in the late 19th century, though. So I found a hat that significantly improves my attributes on defense. Most importantly, it defends me from the opposite sex.
Hopefully, it’s different for you and you own a robe with a hood. Because if you don’t like your headdress, you can simply cover it up:
- Go to the inventory.
- Choose your robe
- Next to transmutations, you will also find the option to put on the hood!
When you put on the hood, the hat disappears underneath, and you can continue your current tasks with peace of mind.
