How to Dismiss Companions & Make Them Stop Following in Starfield

Deutsch English

You may want to wander the planets alone at specific points in the game outside the story or just for fun. Regardless of your goals, you’ll need to dismiss companions that follow you, and this is where players have trouble. This guide describes how to dismiss companions and make them stop following in Starfield.

Sometimes, companions interfere with your travels, especially when you need to be in stealth mode and they attract attention. Also, they are pretty buggy, so they may often annoy you by not letting you get to some room.

Starfield: How to Dismiss Companions

Starfield: Companions

Here are the methods you can use:

  • While on the ship, go to the character you want to leave here. Start a conversation and select “I think it’s time we went our separate ways” from the dialog options provided. This way, one won’t follow you and will stay on board to do some work here or just relax.
  • You can cancel the companion assignment altogether. To do so, you must go to the Crew Roster by opening the main menu. There, you can remove the companion from the team. This way, one will definitely stop following you, and after a while, you can assign them back.

This way, you’ll be free to go on a trip alone without anyone disturbing you. But there are cases when none of these methods work and players are doomed to go with a companion. Fortunately, there is another method that we didn’t include in the main list because it’s pretty lame. If you can’t get rid of your companion, follow these steps:

  1. Go to one of the cities with your companion because there you will have a better chance of getting rid of them.
  2. Do something that this character does not approve of. For example, kill civilians, start shooting at a ship or other allies.
  3. Your companion will not tolerate such actions and will leave you on their own.

This method is not the best to use because in you lose your companion’s favor and also perform actions that can bring you to justice. By the way, if you are looking for more content like this, feel free to read our guide on how to add, remove, and change crew members in Starfield.
