How To Use Crew Skills In Starfield
The crew members’ skills will only be active when they are in an environment where they can use them. Thus, you will need to conduct a skills analysis and assign everyone to their roles. Those who will be most useful at the outpost should be there because that’s where their skills will be activated and bring value. If others can do a better job on the ship, then take them with you on a space voyage to keep the starship in good condition.
For example, if you have Sarah Morgan in your team, who has the Botany Skill, you can take her with you to explore one of the planets, and while you are there, she will go around to research and collect plants. Eventually, there is a chance that she will come up to you and give you what she has collected. The same works with other characters who have similar skills. If someone skillfully cooks food, they may share it with you.

Each team member will have from 1 to 4 skills, and to view them, you need to go to the Crew Roster menu. There, you can assign each member to the position that best suits them. Pay attention to the skill itself, as each team member will have a certain level of ability and this will be noticeable by the stars on the icon. There can be from 1 to 4 stars, and depending on the number, the character’s mastery in this sphere is determined.
