If you want to play with your friends in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone 2, especially in cross play, you will need their Activision ID. We'll tell you where to find this ID and how to add new friends.
Here's what's up: if you want to add friends to play with in Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone 2, you'll need to add them to your friend list. Battlenet, Xbox, and PlayStation players have it easier here, as all 3 platforms are linked, and you can add friends via Battlenet ID, your Xbox Gamertag, or your PS online ID.
However, if you want to add friends from Steam or vice versa, you'll need the Activision ID, which was added with Modern Warfare 2. Finding it is quite easy, we'll tell you how!
To find your own Activision ID, you must go to the Social menu from the main menu. To do this, click on the group icon at the top right of the screen or press the O key on the PC. Now click on “View Profile” at the bottom left to access your own profile. You will see all of your essential information, including your Activision ID. This consists of your account name, followed by a hashtag and 7 numbers:
Once you've figured out your own Activision ID, you can give it to your friends. If you want to add new friends, you will also need the Activision ID of your friends. Once you have it, go back to the Social menu and select the “Friends” tab at the top.
Now you have to type in the Activision ID and the friend request will be sent. You can also add friends directly via Xbox Gamertag, Battlenet or PS Online ID.
Now you can normally invite your friends to your group via the social hub and play together.
It looks like the normal friend invitation doesn't work anymore since the release of Season 1 and Warzone 2. If you invite a friend to your group now, you get kicked to the main menu.
To successfully invite friends to a group, you need to create your own channel in the “Channel” tab. You can find it in the menu at the top of the screen. The icon for it is a headphone. Your friends can join your group through this voice channel.
