In Modern Warfare 2, communication is key in multiplayer, so it's even worse that voice chat doesn't work for some players. In this guide, we'll show you some solutions on how to fix the problem.
What it’s about: As in many other shooters that you can play in multiplayer, communication between the players is essential for winning. If you're not playing with friends on TeamSpeak or Discord, you'll have to rely on in-game voice chat. In Modern Warfare 2, this doesn't seem to work for many players. We'll tell you some tips & tricks to fix this bug.
Voice Service Unavailable in Modern Warfare 2 - These are the Solutions
If voice chat doesn't work for you either, we want to help you fix the problem. First, we have some solutions for both consoles and PC. Below you can find more tips & tricks for PC players if these solutions don't work.
- Enable Voice Chat: In the audio settings, make sure you have enabled voice chat in the first place.
- Select Game Voice Channel: Make sure to set the game voice channel to "All Lobby" in the audio settings.
- Select the correct Device: Go into Modern Warfare 2's audio settings and see if you've selected the correct microphone.
- Tip for PC users: You can set your default recording device in the sound settings of Windows. Make sure your microphone is selected as the default.
- Push-to-Talk: If you have Push-to-Talk enabled, you need to assign a button and keep it pressed as long as you want to talk.
- Enable microphone: Make sure your microphone is not muted. This counts both in-game and on the headset or microphone itself. Some devices have a separate mute button.
- Have you tried turning the device off and on again? As simple as it sounds, it can sometimes be. Restart the game first, and if in doubt, restart your console or PC.
- Is the microphone the problem? To find out if the problem is with Modern Warfare 2 or with your microphone, you should use it in another software. Discord, TeamSpeak, or other games with voice chat are best suited.
Tips and Tricks for PC Gamers of Modern Warfare 2
Especially for PC gamers, we have a few additional tips and possible solutions to share with you:
- Restrict Control: open Windows' sound settings and go to the sound control panel. Under "Recording," double-click to open your device. Then open the "Advanced" tab. There, disable the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" feature.
- Check Privacy: Open the privacy settings of Windows. Select Microphone there. Make sure that the "Allow apps to access your microphone" and "Allow desktop apps to access your microphone" features are enabled.
- Antivirus Programs: Sometimes, the antivirus program may be blocking your microphone. Try turning this off once while playing Modern Warfare 2.
- Windows Update: Go to Windows settings and check if you have the latest updates of Windows installed.
- Update Drivers: Sometimes the drivers from your microphone can also be out of date. Go to the Windows Device Manager and find your microphone under Audio. Right-click and select "Update drivers".
