In the new part of the series, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can once again breed and hatch your own Pokémon. We show you how exactly you get eggs and how you successfully breed your own Pokémon in our guide.

Here's what it's all about: In previous games in the series, you could already breed and hatch your own Pokémon. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can also hatch eggs and breed your own Pokémon. However, the procedure is somewhat different than in the earlier parts. In our guide, we'll show you not only how to get enough eggs, but also how to hatch them and breed Pokémon yourself.

How to get more Pokémon eggs

Farming Pokémon eggs in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is different from in the series' previous installments. From now on, you can start producing eggs yourself, anywhere. Here's how to do it:

  • Start a picnic at any location.
  • Make sure that you have either a male and a female of the same species in your team.
  • Or a Ditto and a second Pokémon of your choice.

By far the best option when breeding is to start a Picnic with only two Pokémon, namely a Ditto and a second Pokémon of your choice. After all, if you have multiple Pokémon participating in the picnic, you won't know later which two Pokémon the eggs came from.

The Ditto is recommended because it is a shapeshifter and can take on any shape when breeding new Pokémon, which means you only need one Pokémon of your choice (either male or female) and just one Ditto.

Once you start the picnic with the right Pokémon, you don't have to do anything but wait. After a certain amount of time, eggs will gradually spawn in your picnic basket, you can simply collect them. So if you want to take a break anyway to wash your Pokémon or make sandwiches, run a picnic on the side to conveniently collect eggs.

This is important: you can easily increase your Pokémon egg yield by eating certain foods before the picnic. Depending on the food, you'll get different buffs and effects, such as more egg power, which means a higher spawn rate during your picnics. Good foods to increase your egg production are:

  • Tropical sandwich
  • Jam sandwich

Breeding in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Once you have collected enough eggs, you can start breeding your own Pokémon, or hatching the eggs. Hatching in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet works the same way in the previous Pokémon games.
After you take the eggs out of the basket, you have to place them in your active party. After that, it's back to being patient and waiting. Just leave the eggs in your party and drive, fly or swim around the area.

After you take the eggs out of the basket, you have to place them in your active team. After that, it's back to being patient and waiting. Just leave the eggs in your team and drive, fly or swim around the area. As soon as you have covered enough distance, the Pokémon will hatch. Your character will automatically stop and you will see the Pokémon hatch.

Can Paradox Pokémon be bred?

The new Paradox Pokémon of the future and past in Scarlet and Violet are popular among fans and would like to be bred by them. However, this is not possible because they are special Pokémon. So, as with the Ultra Beasts of the Alola region, the Paradox Pokémon of the future and Past are to remain rare, and accordingly, you can't breed them. You simply can't use them as breeding partners for other Pokémon.
