Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the first title in the Pokémon game series that you can play in co-op mode. So, when the game is released on November 18, 2022, you’ll be able to explore the new Palia zone directly with friends and catch pocket monsters together with them.
What’s going on? Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gives you the opportunity to experience the game together with friends in co-op mode. Our guide explains exactly how the new feature works and what you need to keep in mind.
How to Properly use Co-op Mode in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
What are the requirements for playing Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in co-op mode? In order to be able to play Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in co-op mode at all, you and your friends will need a Nintendo Online membership in addition to the game itself. This is a paid subscription service from Nintendo.
Nintendo Online costs 3.99 euros per month or 7.99 euros for 90 days or 19.99 euros for 365 days. If you want to play with friends who don’t yet have a Nintendo Online membership, we recommend a family membership. It costs only 34.99 Euros for 365 days, includes access for eight accounts, and is therefore already worthwhile for two players.
In addition to the online mode, there is also a local co-op mode that you can play with friends at home on the couch. However, each player requires their own controller for this.
With how many players at the same time does the co-op mode work? Pokémon Scarlet and Violets co-op mode works for a total of four players. So you can invite three other friends to join you in the hunt for Pokémon.
What does the co-op mode include? If you want to play Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in co-op mode, you can freely explore the entire game world with your teammates. In addition, the following content will be available to your group:
- Tera Raids with boss Pokémon in Tera form (similar to the Dynamax battles in Sword & Shield).
- Picnics together in the open game world.
- Catching Pokémon (only one player from the group can catch a found Shiny at a time).
- Link battles.
- Swapping Pokémon.
- Multi-battles in the battle stadium (four trainers compete in teams of two).
Starting Co-op Mode and Tera-Raids – How to do it
How do I join the co-op mode? To start the co-op mode, you have to go to the PokéPortal and use the so-called Circle of Friends function. You can then connect with other players online or locate local teammates.
How do I start a Tera Raid? If you want to start a Tera raid in co-op mode, you need a raid crystal. You can find these crystals in the game world. They are assigned to your character, which means that only you can start the corresponding raid. However, your fellow players can accompany you in the raid.
