In order to advance in the survival game Smalland, you need various resources that will give you improved armor, weapons, and walls for your base, such as clay. Our guide will show you what you need to do to collect clay, but also where you can find it.
What this guide is about: At some point while playing the game, you will need clay as a resource, which is why it is quite beneficial that you read through this guide to prepare yourself for your upcoming adventure. Since there is no Big Tree where you need to go, and you can’t move your base, you should take this with you:
- Building Hammer
- Spike Pickaxe or better
- Materials to build a small base
- Materials for a Campfire
- Torch
- Enough provisions
- All the weapons you can carry
Where To Find Clay in Smalland
You can find clay on a kind of forest island, which you can only reach on foot in two places from the beach. Another option would be to swim across the river with the gecko or jump over a narrowing of the river with the grasshopper. Of course, if you already have the armor that allows you to fly, it’s even easier since you are able to fly over. Also, move your base to one of the large trees located near the beach to spawn there if you have encountered the wrong creature.
You can easily cross the marked passage and find the desired clay directly on the beach of the other shore. But be careful: wasps, geckos, and lubber are already waiting for you there. Inside the island, hornets, rhinoceros beetles and larger lizards than the gecko await you, so only go as far as you trust your armor and weapons.

How to Recognize Clay
Once you reach the beach on the other shore, you can already see and harvest clay from rocks. They look like small, brown outgrowths. Unlike resin, which also hangs on tree bark, and you only have to collect, you have to harvest clay with a pickaxe. To be able to do this at all, you will need at least one spike pickaxe, which you have to craft at a workbench with these materials:
You may find clay is higher up on a rock, which leads you to need to coordinate your jump and slam the pickaxe. After that, you can pick up the small clay ball(s).
