In this guide, you’ll find a walkthrough of the Two Tales Two Cities quest in Starfield. For you to finish the quest, you’ll need to talk to a few people and make an important choice.
In Two Tales Two Cities, you will play the role of a UCSec Captain. You’ll have to investigate a crime, namely vandalism. This side quest is given to you by Sergeant Yumi of UCSec, after speaking to him at the UC station in New Atlantis. And this is how you can complete it.
Starfield Two Tales Two Cities: Speaking with Markannen
After speaking with Yumi and accepting the quest, follow the objective marker to a tram station. Here, an unknown suspect committed vandalism on a tram and a wall next to the tunnel.
Officer Markannen will meet you at the scene while interviewing a witness. Speak to her and she’ll tell you a brief summary of the situation: there was initially one witness, a Functionary at MAST. But shortly after, another one was called in to identify the suspect (this is the witness at the tram station). Their testimonies don’t align, so it’s your job now to figure out who is right.
Choose the first dialogue option, “All right, tell me what you need from me,” and she’ll offer you to interview the MAST Functionary Gershon with her.

Starfield Two Tales Two Cities: Interviewing Gershon
Make your way to his office by following the objective markers and speak with him. He will make excuses why he can’t let you interview him at the moment, and offer to meet you at UC Security later.
You won’t be able to force him into an interview, but he’ll let you read some notes regarding his testimony on his computer. Here, you’ll find three notes:
- Tahir Vala, which is a description of Tahir Vala who Gershon suspects to be the vandal.
- The Well, which is a brief explanation of a place called The Well.
- A Tale Of Two Cities, where Gershon shares his admiration for a Charles Dickens book.
The latter is the evidence, so you need to convince Yumi to arrest Gershon, as the first witness testified that the vandal was carrying that book. Speak to Markannen and tell her about your findings.
Now, you can make your way to UC Security to confront Gershon.
Starfield: Confronting Gershon
Speak with Yumi at UC Security. Here, you can arrest either Gershon by passing a persuasion check on Yumi, or Tahir Vala. Who you choose to arrest in this situation will not make any difference, but it’s clear that Gershon is the criminal here.
If you’ve picked to arrest Gershon, he’ll be escorted to the holding room and you’ll have to speak with Yumi again, turning in the quest. The rewards for this quest are 200 EXP and 6200 Credits.
