Even a week after the release of Amazon’s new MMORPG New World, there are queues on full servers. Many players have already switched to new servers and are playing without their friends. A planned character transfer should remedy this. We will tell you when the transfer is planned, why it is necessary and what advantages and disadvantages there are.

What we know so far about character transfer in New World
Update October 22nd: After around 150,000 players have already changed their server and there have been more and more problems with synchronization, Amazon has stopped the transfer for the time being. They are working on a solution and will bring the character transfer back online as soon as possible.
Update October 21: All servers are now ready for character transfer. Below, you can find out how the transfer works.
Update October 20th: With update 1.03 the server transfer is finally integrated into the game. However, not every server is activated. It will probably take a few hours, or maybe until tomorrow before all players can transfer their characters.
To already see where you want to take your character, you can take a look at the server populations provided by the developer.
Update October 16: The character transfer function is now integrated into the game. Nevertheless, the developers want to wait until next week until the function is activated. Now at prime time on the weekend, the activation is not a good idea, so Amazon. So players have to be patient for a few more days.
Update October 9th: Amazon is currently testing the server transfers, but is not yet satisfied with the results. You will need some more time to solve the last few problems. The new date should fall in the next week.
Update October 6th: The Developers published a new patch for New World. With that patch, they implemented the groundwork for the character-transfer. You can see it in the ingame shop.
That’s going on: At the current time on October 4, 2021, there is no concrete statement from Amazon when the character transfer will be available for all players, except that it should be so far this week.
On October 1st, 2021, the developers posted an update on Twitter saying that they are working hard on this feature and plan to release it in the week of October 5th. So we can assume that the character transfer will appear this week if all goes well.
This is how character transfer works
To transfer your character, you must first log into your current server. As soon as you are in the game, open the shop and claim your transfer token in the character transfer tab.
So that the transfer can now be carried out using the token, you have to leave your current company, cancel all auctions in the trading post and stand with your character in a city or outpost.
What is taken over during the transfer?
- You keep all of your character’s progress
- You keep your faction and your faction progress
- You keep your inventory, your gold, and your stored items
- You keep your house and your decorations
- You keep the entire quest progress
What is not included in the transfer?
- Your company will not be taken over
- Your auctions at the trading post
- Your friends-list is world-specific and is therefore not taken over either
Where can you transfer your character to?
- You can transfer your character to any world. With exception to:
- Full server
- Server under maintenance
- Servers on which you already have a character on
That’s why there is a character transfer
A character transfer to transfer your character to another server for free was planned by Amazon to combat the long queues in New World.
That was the idea: In the days after the release, the developers put many new servers online to relieve the queues on full servers. But so that players will switch from full servers to new ones, Amazon made a promise that the players will be able to transfer the character to another server free of charge at a later stage. Many players have taken advantage of the offer, are now playing without their friends, get to know the game, and wait to transfer their character to their friends’ server.
For example, it is currently no longer possible to create a new character on full servers.
Those are the pros and cons of character transfers
Of course, the whole idea doesn’t just have advantages. So here’s a list of what we believe:
Our tip: Before you plan to change your server, watch everything that’s going on for a few days. Is your friend’s server still balanced after the transfer is possible? Or maybe your server is getting better, and your friends prefer to come to you. Give yourself a few days and think twice. So far we believe that only one character transfer is free.
