There is a lot of news about Sons of the Forest, because not only did the developer answer community questions in the official "Reddit & Discord Post-Launch Q&A". No, a data miner has also recently uncovered possible new features; here, we will summarize everything worth knowing.

Lots of new (and old) things in Sons of the Forest: On February 23rd, the initial Early Access build of Sons of the Forest got off to a flying start. In the meantime, however, the high release player numbers have calmed down somewhat; while the cannibal island was initially entered by up to almost 412,000 players at the same time, around 84,000 survivors have been hanging around on the dangerous island in the last 24 hours.

Time to look into the near future of Sons of the Forest: Which aspects could be expanded or improved, and which features could be newly implemented? Developer Endnight Games answered to these questions in a Reddit & Discord post-launch Q&A that lasted about eleven minutes. The interview was based on community questions collected in advance via Reddit and Discord. In addition, a dataminer got his hands on the hit title and dug up several features that could be added to the game in one of the next updates. You can read all the important news below.

Sons of the Forest: New Data Mining Findings

Sons of the Forest is not safe from curious data snoopers. Just recently, a data miner posted screenshots on Reddit showing possible upcoming features. Among them were a regular rifle as well as a BB gun, binoculars, a night vision device, and an ice axe that might make it possible to climb steep walls. Meanwhile, according to a Youtuber, this list has expanded to include more features and utility items. According to this, the following stuff could be introduced soon via an update:

  • A tracking dart. This can be seen in one of the screenshots shared by the aforementioned Youtuber. However, the picture does not provide any information about the exact functionality of the dart. Of course, it would be conceivable that it transmits motion data to the GPS device.
  • A teapot. Yes, a teapot. Again, the split screenshot doesn't reveal anything more about its uses, but sometimes a teapot is just a teapot, you know.
  • A laser pointer. It is not clear if this device will be used in conjunction with Kelvin. It is more likely that the laser pointer will be used to examine the condition of terrain to facilitate any construction projects.
  • A knife from the 3D printer.
  • Another water bottle. In this case, with a hip flask charm.
  • A charger. Possibly for the flashlight's batteries.

Sons of the Forest: Additional and Returning Features

In the Q&A mentioned at the beginning, Endnight Games answered a total of 25 community questions; well, more or less, that is. The Canadians only touched on some issues and left it at vague hints. Nevertheless, there were also a few interesting outlooks, especially regarding companions, story and returning features.

  • Story: Of course, many players found the approximately 15 hour lasting campaign of Sons of the Forest too short. Endnight Games intends to counteract this with additional movie sequences, game areas, and the elaboration or expansion of existing story content.
  • Companions: Kelvin will be able to take on additional tasks in the future. It is planned he will be able to build walls to protect the base as well as do structural reinforcements and carry out necessary repair work. Virginia's AI is to be reworked so that it acts more boldly overall. Possibly as part of this, she will gain some sort of self-awareness, which will further increase by eliminating enemies.
  • Wooden Sled: Due to the great demand from the community, the wooden sled known from The Forest will also be placed in the sequel. However, this should not be expected in the near future, especially since the corresponding mechanic does not work smoothly even in the predecessor.
  • Enemies: Although wild animals like bears won't make it into the archipelago, Endnight Games promises even more enemy types in the future. For example, the cannibals are supposed to vary more and spread fear and terror in even larger versions. In addition, at least one completely new enemy type is planned, as well as more cannibal camps.
  • Crafting items: According to the developers, it is certain that additional craftable items will find their way into the game. However, they did not provide any further details on this.
