If you pre-order the Deluxe Edition of Hogwarts Legacy for PC or current-gen consoles, you’ll get access to the role-playing game three days early. But will you be allowed to stream the Potter prequel or present it in videos? We have looked into the issue.
Those who pre-order play earlier: Warner Bros. sells various editions of Hogwarts Legacy, the upcoming role-playing game in the Harry Potter universe. The Deluxe Edition, which costs between 70 (PC) and 85 Euros (next-gen consoles), offers a special advantage because it grants pre-orderers early access to the game.
While “normal” purchasers will only be able to get their hands on the magic school desk from February 10th, 2023, pre-orderers will be able to get started three days earlier, on February 7th. This raises the question for streamers and content creators whether Hogwarts Legacy can be presented to the public from this point on. There is no official answer to this question yet, but it looks like Twitch and YouTube users won’t have to hold back.
Hogwarts Legacy: Streaming Before Release Probably not a Problem
Recently, a Twitter user asked Avalanche itself whether Hogwarts Legacy could be streamed as early as February 7th. Unsurprisingly, the developer studio has not yet responded. This question is also currently being discussed within the Steam community.
According to the experiences of some Twitch partners and other experienced streamers, streaming before the supposed release date is not a problem. In the corresponding threads, it was argued that pre-orderers would otherwise have had to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which is absolutely correct.
Further replies appeased with the fact that February 7th is to be understood as the street date and thus as the official release date. There would only be two release dates here; one for the standard edition of the game and one for the deluxe edition.
In fact, it’s rather unlikely that publisher Warner Bros. will be piqued by “early” streams and videos for Hogwarts Legacy. After all, such images – which was also taken up by the discussants – are ultimately free advertising for the product.
