With The Detectives DLC, developer Crytek 2 brings new Legendary Hunters to Hunt: Showdown that reminds us of Red Dead Redemption. And that's probably no coincidence, we have all the information!

Here's what's going on: Crytek's Hunt: Showdown has released a new DLC called "The Detectives" in which you get 2 new legendary hunters. Until a few hours ago, however, the DLC was called something else and brought back memories of Red Dead Redemption, the action-adventure from Rockstar Games.

In the DLC, which you can only get directly in the game, you get two new legendary hunters against Blood Bonds:

  • Private Eye: Candice Rouille left New York with her badge, her mentor and an unbroken will to uncover the truth in Louisiana. All three would be taken from her, and instead of leaving the bayou alone, she made a new path of blood and bone.
  • Hawkshaw Jack: Feared by outlaws and New York City lawyers alike, Jack Marwick viewed corruption as a tool to solve mysteries. He came to Louisiana to use his skills, but discovered a new breed of corruption that even he can't exploit.

That's why it reminds of Red Dead Redemption: Not only the setting of the trailer reminds us of Red Dead Redemption, but also the two new Hunters. They look like they're straight out of the game from Rockstar Games. The Wild West is actually not new in Hunt: Showdown, but two details stand out:

  • Private Eye: The name of the first Hunter is Private Eye, which is either a coincidence or a homage to the protagonist's ability from RDR "Dead Eye". We're probably grasping at straws here.
  • The Pinkertons: In Read Dead Redemption, the Pinkertons are an organization of bounty hunters who hunt bandits on behalf of the state or sometimes work as mercenaries on behalf of the rich. They are your opponents in the game and are constantly breathing down your neck. Until a few hours ago, the Hunt: Showdown DLC and the trailer were also called "The Pinkerton Detectives", what a coincidence!

Pinkerton-Detectives

That's the strange thing about it: The question now is, of course, why did Crytek change the name at short notice? The answer is quickly clear if you surf the net a little. Rockstar Games has always strived to make Red Dead Redemption realistic. Roughly explained, the Pinkertons are also in reality a group of bounty hunters who act on behalf of the state.

The Pinktertons don't like the way their people are portrayed in Red Dead Redemption and appear to have already sued Rockstar. Apparently there is also a kind of patent on the Pinkerton name, so it is not surprising that Crytek quickly adapted the name.

However, this does not change the two new hunters that you can now acquire in Hunt: Showdown.

Shocker, you’re right about the mercenary part they were enforcing borderline slavery in heavy labor rich areas back in the 1800s and earlier such as mines quarries farms. Like they literally murdered and tortured ‘fellow Americans’ to force them working in poor paying conditions.
