Sons of the Forest, the sequel to the successful survival game The Forest, is supposed to be released as a full developed game on February 23 after several postponements. Now, however, the developer’s plans have changed.
Here’s what’s going on: After being postponed several times, Sons of The Forest was now supposed to be released as a full developed game on February 23. The last gameplay videos and details already left a very positive impression. But now the developers at Endnight Games change their plans and release the survival title in an Early Access.
Sons of the Forest Starts in Early Access – This is the Reason
The reason Sons of the Forest will now launch in Early Access on February 23 instead of a full release is quite simple. The developers want to make their game even bigger and don’t want to postpone it another time. So they made the following statement on the official Steam page:
„It’s been a long journey since we first started ‘Sons of The Forest’ development and it’s grown into the biggest most complex game we have ever made. There is still so much more we want to add; items, new mechanics, gameplay balance and more. We didn’t want to delay again so have instead decided to involve the community in the continued development of this project and keep our February 23rd release date but instead release in Early Access.
‘The Forest’ turned out to be a massive success, due mostly to the awesome community and the suggestions, feedback, and bug reports the players shared with us. We are really excited and hope that players want to come on this new journey with us to make this the ultimate survival horror simulator.“
So the developers don’t just want to fix bugs or further adjust the balance, but also add more items and mechanics to the already complex game. This includes items that you can produce on the 3D printer in the game, which will probably play an important role. But building options are also to be expanded, and you can look forward to new things to discover.
How long is Early Access planned for? The Early Access is supposed to last about 6 to 8 months if there are no problems. However, this schedule is often extended when player feedback leads to the integration of new features that are not yet planned. We’re assuming an Early Access timeframe of about 12 months.
The price is not expected to change between Early Access and full release, and player feedback will be tracked via Steam as well as social media.
